THE NATIONAL FEDERATION OF MEAT & FOOD TRADERS
THE newly expanded Primary Authority (PA) scheme has now been implemented and successfully met its target date of 1 October 2017 without any major glitches. All members previously
registered on the scheme were successfully transferred to the new system on that date. Since it was introduced in 2009, Primary Authority has helped businesses avoid inconsistent and confusing red tape. Tis has been shown to increase business confidence and reduce operational costs, allowing enterprises to focus
on expansion. Te last major change
occurred in 2013 which allowed businesses in trade associations to sign up to a co-ordinated partnership. Te NFMFT in partnership with Horsham District Council were one of the pilot partnerships of the co- ordinated scheme. Our partnership providing assured advice on food safety
to the success of primary authority and has been re-designed to enable more businesses the opportunity to benefit from the scheme. Regulatory Delivery (RD), the government agency that oversees PA, described the changes as an important milestone and a step change in the delivery of local regulation.
