rump. Finally, Yandell Media

hosted a terrific event recently with the Meat Management Awards held at the Hilton Metropole, NEC Birmingham. Te event was first class

with excellent food and entertainment which made for a thoroughly enjoyable evening and congratulations to Owen Taylor & Sons, Archers Butchers and Anderton’s Ribble Valley Butchers who all picked up awards on the night. Tis year, I felt that

independent butchers featured as finalists in more categories than I have seen in previous years, which illustrates the strength of innovation and quality in our sector. I encourage members to

enter these awards as there is no charge and the publicity you could gain from a win is well worth having! As you will have seen, from

coverage in Craſt Butcher, the Federation is continuing

to work with the Sustainable Food Trust, and the Scottish Federation, to try and make sure that small abattoirs have a future. Tere is a lot going on with letters to ministers and meetings with interested parties of which we will keep you posted. In a similar vein It was great

to see industry stalwart Sammy Morphet at the shop recently, when he passed over numerous items of documentation on his efforts, over the years, for sensible meat inspections. Sadly, we seem to be having the same arguments about veterinary input. On this subject, I am sad to say that

Toby Baker, who worked so hard on this matter, has decided to close his abattoir. Meanwhile I look forward

to Members Day on 17th July at which time the NFMFT will transform into National Craſt Butchers - a title we feel more accurately reflects our members. n

Deliciously smoky, with a hint of fennel and garlic. Perfect for the BBQ season.
