E U F E E D P R O D U C T ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINT CATEGORY RULES OFFICIALLY

APPROVED On 15 February 2018, the Feed Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules (Feed PEFCR) were officially approved by the Environmental Footprint Steering Committee. The establishment of the Feed PEFCR represents a major milestone in coming to a harmonised methodology for the calculation of the environmental footprint of compound feed production. FEFAC President Nick Major: “We will

finally see a robust, credible and transparent LCA methodology come to life to accurately and consistently assess our sector’s ecological footprint. This will allow compound feed manufacturers to demonstrate their capacity to help reduce environmental impacts linked to livestock production through the formulation of feed diets.” The votes on the remaining PEFCR

pilots will take place in March and April 2018, culminating in the EU PEF conference on 23- 25 April 2018 after which all approved PEFCR pilots will be published. The FAO-LEAP Feed Guidelines published in April 2015 were a key reference document in the development of the Feed PEFCR, thereby ensuring alignment of the methodological framework at global and EU level. In parallel, by the end of April 2018, the first version of the public GFLI (Global Feed LCA Institute) database of key feed ingredients will be made available, enabling the practical implementation of the Feed PEFCR methodology by feed companies.

ADISSEO PLANS TO BUILD A NEW LIQUID METHIONINE PLANT IN

NANJING Bluestar Adisseo Company announced that the Board of Directors has approved the construction of a new liquid methionine plant in Nanjing.

It will be the Company’s third global

liquid methionine platform after the first two world-class plants in Burgos, Spain and in Nanjing, China. This new unit will be built on the NANJING

Liuhe Chemical Park, close to the Adisseo existing plant in order to maximize synergies and to take the full advantage of Adisseo’s experience curve to manage such project and operations. With a designed annual capacity of

The new agreement will take effect from

1 July 2018 and see Cefetra manage the day- to-day running of the store, which has a 45k tonnes capacity and is ideally located in one of the major grain growing areas in the UK. As part of the plans Cefetra will also

establish a grain origination team to work out of the same location by May 2018, and all existing Chilton Grain staff will transfer to Cefetra. Andrew Mackay, managing director at

Cefetra, comments: “Having worked with Chilton Grain for a number of years we are very pleased to have reached this agreement, and grateful for their support and trust in taking the business forward. “We are confident in the future of the

British agricultural sector and believe we can play a leading part in its success. Our recent purchase of Premium Crops and the book of Dalmark Grain Limited - previous operators of the Chilton Grain store - follow on from the acquisition of Wessex Grain in 2015, and are important steps in establishing Cefetra as a strong grain origination company with a nationwide capability.”

180 Kton/y liquid methionine, the new plant is expected to start about mid 2021 in order to meet customers demand and Adisseo’s sustainable growth objectives. This unit will be operated by the same management team as the current plant and will share some facilities, such as the administrative building, warehouse and logistic areas as well as utility infrastructures. This will lead to lower capital and operational expenses and further improve the Adisseo’s competitive advantages. The total investment of approximately USD490 million, is funded by Adisseo’s own cash in hand. The pay-back is estimated to be around 4 years. Jean-Marc Dublanc, CEO of Adisseo,

said: “The new project is a key step to consolidate our leadership in methionine industry. We see a steady growth rate of 6% per year for methionine, and the liquid formenjoys an even higher growth rate, with a yearly growth above 10%. The launch of this major project also demonstrates the confidence from BLUESTAR and CHEMCHINA management and boards in Adisseo’s ability to compete on the methionine market and also of the team itself, in order to extract the full value of such capital investment. In addition, we will also add an economy of scale by building another new plant in Nanjing. We can fully leverage the current local team, the experience from building and operating our previous plant in Nanjing as well as sharing some of the existing facilities, making it the largest liquid methionine platform operating two separated units.”
