Reflexology Self Help Techniques

Reflexology Self Help techniques can be safely used at home, either on yourself or have someone do it for you. Aim for 2-3 minutes and see how you feel. Start by rubbing your hands together to warm them up!

Headaches: The head reflex points on your feet and hands are across your toes and fingers, but specifically your big toe. Massage around the pad and below the ridge of the pad on the underneath of each big toe, also focusing on the base and sides of each big toe. This is also represented on your thumbs.

A Pain in the Neck: Try pressing and massaging round the base of your thumbs.

Stress & Anxiety: There is a reflex point called the solar plexus, which is linked to your energy centre. It is great to use this for times of stress or anxiety. Open your palm so it’s facing up and with your other hand place a finger in the very centre, move it up a centimetre towards the base of your fingers and this is the solar plexus point, press and hold while taking some slow deep breaths and repeat on the other hand.

Tension Related to the Back: The spine reflex runs along the inner edge of the sole of your foot. Squeeze the inner edge of both feet with your fingers and thumb, from the big toe to the heel. Do this three or four times on each foot.

Reflexology for Pregnancy and Women’s Health

Reflexology has been shown in clinical trials to help reduce labour time, if regular treatments are received throughout pregnancy. A technique called Priming for Labour can be used on or after your due date. The focus of the reflexology treatment is on relaxation, re-balancing and stimulating reflex points associated with organs and systems of the body, particularly those relating to pregnancy.

Reflexology is also very beneficial for many health concerns particularly women’s health. Having recently trained in very specialist fertility support reflexology, I have learnt techniques that may help re-balance irregular cycles and associated hormone imbalances. Also there are specific techniques used to support conditions such as endometriosis, PCOS, (polycystic ovary syndrome) and symptoms of PMS, (Pre menstral syndrome) such as headaches and feelings of agitation which themselves suggest a possible hormone imbalance.
