Sword & Trowel 2018: Issue 1
5. We may further learn from Scripture from the example of Enoch, walking with God.
Psalm 69.31. Hebrews 13.16. Sacrifi ce of praise.
1 John 3.22. Love to the brethren.
Colossians 1.10. Every good work, increasing in knowledge of God, longsuffering and patience &c.
6. These things must be actually done and not merely talked of and admired. Practical holiness is that which pleases. To know and not to do is sin.
7. This must be always. At home, in secret, in business, in society, &c.
8. This will secure to us communion with God and his powerful aid. It will make us infl uential over others, calm in our own souls, happy in the life of heaven.
Is this too high a model? Then you love not Jesus.
Is this impossible to reach? Do you doubt the Holy Spirit’s power?
Have you failed? Grieve over it. Will you labour for it? He waits to help you; he worketh in us mightily.
