MARKET REPORT HEATING & LIGHTING continued

HSC's 110v Helios 360 light.

Black & Decker. Cascade has developed a full range of Stanley work and site lighting after exhibiting prototypes at the show. This runs from portable, rechargeable lights through to professional area lighting providing over 8,000 lumens.

Callum Clarke, National Account Manager for Stanley Lighting, said: “We received a lot of really good, constructive feedback from hire companies at the show. We made a few changes as suggested to make the products even more suitable for hire customers, which will be evident when the products come online.

“We have launched or are launching most of the range. With some products there has been a slight delay due to COVID-19.”

The 120W globe light it showcased at the Ricoh Arena now has a shock-proof base and durable polycarbonate body; and will be available as 220-240v and 110v versions. Cascade has also made substantial changes to the tripod-mounted LED work light that was the centrepiece of its show stand.

The 120W globe light is part of a new range of site lighting from Stanley Black & Decker.

Cascade has opted for high standards of circuitry and

batteries for all of its rechargeable work lights, including Samsung/LG batteries. “The performance is much better, they last longer and recharge quicker than the generic standard Chinese batteries, said Clarke. “Stanley is a world-renowned brand known for quality, so naturally we wanted a superior specification and other quality features such as double over voltage and thermal protection.”

The company is looking forward to a strong lighting season. “The hire industry has been very receptive; and we are confident the Stanley lighting range will do well.”

Informed choice

John McGhee, Group Marketing Manager at the Hire Supply Company (HSC), believes that there is still work to be done on ensuring hirers are making informed choices between halogen and LED lighting.

“It is extremely important to compare apples with apples. Fundamentally, LED is going to give hirers a better return on investment. For us, halogen lights are finished - we only sell LED, because it is more energy efficient and longer-lasting.”

The company recently launched a new website, www.hscgroupuk.co.uk, and has several lighting options it says will

excite hirers. The first is the Beacon 360 Go rechargeable beacon light, which is IP65 rated, for indoor and outdoor use. “It is a serious piece of kit aimed at the quality end of the market and the price reflects that, but it will take a serious beating as well. It compares very favourably to other lights on portability, lumens and wattage.”

Its wired Elite Helios site lights can be linked and comes with an integrated microwave sensor - if no movement is detected within 15 minutes, the lights power down automatically. The third new product is the Elite range of festoon lights, the sonic sealed fully enclosed LED bulbs are IP65 rated. “They move the technology forwards, away from the old fashioned, fiddly bulb with mesh guard.”

Hotting up

HSC has taken advantage of the COVID-19 restrictions to create marquee bundles for weddings and similar gatherings. “Venues haven’t been able to hold weddings or other events, creating a big opportunity for marquee kits. We can provide everything from the heating to ducting and make the bundles bespoke to the hirers needs.”

The company will also be heavily promoting its Elite range of infrared fan heaters and cabinet heaters, along with the Master range which are powered by diesel or propane gas. All Master heaters now come with a three-year limited warranty, which HSC says is virtually unheard of.

The Master heaters from HSC run on propane or diesel, and have a three-year warranty.

“There are a lot of hirers ready to buy and we are confident they will like the unique features and benefits of many of our products.”

Meanwhile, Clarke International is expanding its range of 2kW-9kW PTC heaters with ceramic elements this season. PTC heaters warm up quickly and then automatically reduce power consumption as required, to maintain temperature and save energy.

Ross Burnard, Sales and Marketing Director, said: “Our growing range of 110v electric heaters and dual voltage (110/230v) propane gas heaters are particularly popular with hire companies for the building trade.”
