Makita’s new 163cc mulching lawn mower, the PLM5121N2, is a walk- behind model that has a 51cm cutting width and a single-lever cutting height adjustment between 25-70mm. It is powered by a 3.5hp 4-stroke 163cc engine. The single-speed drive to the rear wheels is controlled by a flat lift-up operator control for easy manoeuvring. The 31kg machine can cut close to walls and around obstacles by using an offset blade setting. Also new from Makita,
which will be exhibiting at Saltex, is the 25.4cc
EM2654LH MM4 4-stroke 1.1hp line trimmer, which has a spring-assisted recoil starter with mechanical decompression, and a multi-position lubrication system to enable the engine to be inclined to any angle, even during continuous operation. Three additional attachments are available that can convert the machine into a pole hedge trimmer, pole pruning saw or rotary cultivator.

In response to the impending changes to emissions legislation governing diesel engines, GreenMech has launched the Arborist 150p wood chipper, which will be displayed at Saltex, being held at the NEC on 1 and 2 November, as a cost-effective alternative with a petrol engine. From 2019, the tighter Stage V European emissions
regulations come into effect, applying to new diesel engines over 19kW (26hp), with some requiring diesel particulate filters (DPF) to be fitted. The Arborist 150p has a 37hp Briggs & Stratton petrol unit which is designed to offer comparable performance to the higher horse-powered diesel engine on the existing Arborist 150, but at a reduced cost. Sales Director Martin Lucas said, “The launch of the
Arborist 150p has come after many years of research, development and testing. It was vital that we could offer a petrol alternative that did not sacrifice output or performance. For customers for whom diesel remains their preferred choice, we will continue to produce the Arborist 150 fitted with a 26hp diesel engine which, as it stands, meets the new legislation requirements.”

Tool security with BPT
BPT (Birchwood Price Tools) has introduced the Landscaper, a version of its popular Van Vault secure store that has been developed to accommodate equipment that is longer than average and up to 2.2m in length. This means it can hold items such as line trimmers and other long- handled tools. Incorporating anti-drill stainless steel disc locks and a
tamper-proof lid, the Landscaper is vented to prevent the build-up of fumes. Additionally, documentation can be stored in an internal compartment.
