‘It’s a bit like Tinder’: WasteApp bridges gap for waste fi rms to seek new prospects

WASTEAPP is a new and unique platform connecting waste producer to waste facilities across England and Wales for their specifi c waste types. The app creates a bridge for waste producers, carriers or brokers that are seeking either disposal, recovery, or recycling opportunities. The easy-to- use WasteApp also allows users to fi lter through over 10,000 permitted waste sites to check whether that particular site can accept certain waste types. All this information is stored within the app, which allows users free-of-charge registration.

WasteApp benefi ts

Just a few swipes, a user can fi nd treatment facilities by specifi c streams of waste, or by waste activity, as well as location; the app opens up business growth opportunities within England and Wales’ waste industries. Above all, the app helps accelerate and optimise the treatment, recycling, and reprocessing of waste.

In-app promotion for users

Waste companies can promote their waste sites by registering at current discounted

rates (see mywasteapp.co.uk for details). Once registered, companies provide the following information which can then be shown on WasteApp: • contact information • the waste types they would like to accept based on capacity or current treatment facilities

• whether the waste is recycled, recovered or disposed of, while both minimising and maximising accepted

waste tonnages where required. Jane Hall, director of digital application specialists Green Edge, is the developer of the online platform and spoke about the motivation behind the app. She said: “WasteApp tells users which waste site is a good match – it’s a bit like Tinder. The app’s team will be promoting the platform widely to all industry sectors over the coming months, which means that anyone registered with WasteApp will benefi t from our marketing campaign. For those concerned about contingency plans post-Brexit, WasteApp will help waste producers easily fi nd new waste management opportunities closer to home. “WasteApp was created with the aim of better connecting waste producers and the waste treatment industry as a unique marketing tool, with the longer-term aim of assisting waste producing companies in achieving zero to landfi ll targets.” The app was grant funded by the Welsh Government through their Smart Cymru scheme, who have been greatly supportive of WasteApp.
