Top tip! Digitising for high-impact and low stitch-count Janos Horvath, a Wilcom International veteran with incredible experience in the Indian industry, explains the importance of
reducing trims in this invaluable article.
roducing creative embroidery that is effi cient to stitch out is the dream of every digitiser, however previously this has been time-consuming to achieve. Every stitch, colour-change, and trim take up valuable machine time. Minimising trims translates to the saving of hours in your production schedule, here I break it down just perfectly. Machines usually run at 700 to 800 stitches per minute for optimum results, and depending on the machine brand and model, each trim takes three to four seconds. This time is used to: • Slow the machine down to a stop. • Move the trimmer knife and cut the thread. • Restart slowly with a few stitches for the top thread and bobbin to safely catch up and form the fi rst few knots. • And return to regular stitching speed.
P
Regions like India create large and beautiful designs, so their focus is on minimising stitches and trims. To save added time, open stitch types are transformed into uniform run-stitch patterns as these have fewer thread breaks on machines. EmbroideryStudio e4.5 Designing has many open creative stitch types for creating low stitch-count designs. Add-on Elements such as Maze Fill, Reef Photo Stitch, and Spiral Fill produce designs with a single trim!
The Trapunto feature available in Wilcom’s premium-level software is invaluable. In just a single click, travel runs are sent to the design edges, making them invisible and removing potential trims without sacrifi cing the aesthetics of the design.
