Stanley/ Stella releases 2021 sustainability report
T
he new report released in July shows the steps that Stanley/ Stella is taking to improve its supply chain and global footprint.
Jean Chabert, founder and CEO, said: “We have some ambitious plans for the future, which we are excited to reveal: we are committing to pay the workers in our CMT factories a living wage by 2025, and to be Climate Positive by 2030… or even earlier.”

ornit Digital’s new partnership with online visual communications and design platform Canva will help decorators easily add the Canva design tool to their e-commerce websites. As part of the partnership, Kornit X will become one of Canva’s first certified integration partners. a champion of organic cotton and the use of recycled polyester, Stanley/ Stella is now also embarking on a circular economic model by transforming its own organic cotton fabric cutting waste into new T shirts and sweatshirts. The RE-creator and RE-blaster are made using 50% recycled organic cotton taken from cutting waste and 50% virgin organic cotton.
The sustainability mindset applies not only to the factories where the garments are produced, but to the HQ in Belgium. Electric bikes are provided to staff to
reduce the reliance on cars and public transport, office snacks are sourced from local suppliers and reusable water bottles are used to avoid plastic waste.

Gildan reports bounce back after COVID-19 slump in sales

ildan generated sales of $747 million during the second quarter of 2021, up 225% compared to last year
during the pandemic.
However, sales were down 7% compared to the record second quarter seen in 2019. Glenn J. Chamandy, CEO, said: “Our business continued to build momentum during the second quarter as economic activity in North America trended positively and the power of our Back to Basic strategy continued to drive stronger profitability.” This increase in sales was driven primarily by higher sales volumes and favourable product mix. Activewear sales in the second quarter of 2021 totalled $597 million, up 353% over the prior year. The increase reflected significantly higher unit sales volumes in all markets, particularly imprintables, driven by the strong recovery in point-of-sales and the non-recurrence of significant distributor
inventory destocking which occurred in the second quarter last year. Net sales for Gildan for the six months ended July 4, of $1,336 million were up 94% over the same period last year. The year-over-year increase in activewear sales, where Gildan generated $1,081 million was primarily driven by volume increases in all channels and favourable product-mix. Gildan is encouraged by the recovery seen in North America, although recovery outside of North America remains weak. On the supply chain side, Gildan continues to monitor US labour shortages which have been affecting yarn production. Gildan also reports seeing tightness in raw material inputs and transportation-related factors globally which are creating inflationary pressure. Consequently, Gildan remains cautiously optimistic as the recovery progresses.
