Jeans, jeans, jeans N

o wardrobe in the world is free of it, no matter how different your home, or work is, no matter what culture you come from, you must surely own one or two pairs of jeans, or even a shirt, shoes or a bag of that fabric which has been around for an eternity. Jeans have been around for over 142 years. 1873 was the first year of the extraordinary product which gains the largest credit with changing fashion and the culture of clothing in the whole world.

So whatever culture or religion, whatever the distance between one continent and another, whatever separation of development between a country that holds the title of developed, and another carrying the title of developing, jeans remain at the top of the fashion list which unified the world and completely changed the tastes of mankind.

May 20, 1837, is the official birthday of the jeans that we know today.

From the 1930s until today, jeans have remained in a daily development, and did not stop spreading, until they turned into the uniform of the world in all its classes and cultures. Jeans have been worn by heads of state but at the same time poorer sections of society. It is difficult to imagine a world without jeans. Year after year, the jeans have developed and progressed, fashion designers were and still are using all possible solutions to refine denim and move it up a level.

A successful story

Thin jeans, wide jeans, embroidered or printed, many models and a lot of accessories to fulfill every taste and each event. Because everyone wanted to become part of this successful story, many manufacturers have been inventing machines to help in developing and producing amazing products made out of that heavy material. Embroidery has been always a part of the jeans production and it gave the jeans the identity which we know today, repurpose and modernise an old or vintage jean was how hand stitching/ embroidery started. Today we see a large, multi-heads embroidery machines which works fast and sharp to help designers apply the little or large stitched designs into their jeans, with enough speed that suits the large production and high demand of the products.

Printing solutions has played an important role in the denim decoration. Starting from screen printing which has been for a long time the best solution for printing on denim, thanks to its ink’s reliability and the high printing speed of its machines. So today you can’t find a jeans manufacture without screen printers in their productions. With screen printing you can print only flat single layer of material and you should be careful not to use too many colours, otherwise the task to set up the screen with the full colour will be hard and expensive. This is why the inkjet printing of denim jeans is becoming more popular. In fact, inkjet printing technology has already become quite significant, slowly replacing screen printing. Its versatility has led to the development of innovative fashion designs, changing the way textile and fashion designers interact with denim fabrics, and stimulating their creativity within a digital frame. Inkjet printing came to solve what screen printing couldn’t do, so now you can print directly on the finished garment (direct to garment technology), you can print any design you wish with a single click, numbers of colours are not an issue anymore, you even can print a photograph with a perfect resolution. Today’s designers are in love with this technology, why not when they can see their designs in no time printed directly and exactly how they wish to have it on their denim. Finally, the question is where the denim is going in the future, where does the fantasy bring these creative designers and how what is it going to look like? I’m sure you have some ideas.
