Finding the balance for digital print-on-demand
As a digital printer of T shirts on-demand, Tshirtify needed a printer with high output and consistent quality. Initially, the Aeoon Kyo 12 was a thorn in the side, until the team slowly navigated the road to success. Here’s how they did it...
wo years ago, Tshirtify, based in Stone, Staffordshire was using a Brother 782 and a 541 until the decision was made to change to an Aeoon. Odane Daley in the production team explains the difference: “The Brother took up to five minutes to print each garment, but now with the Aeoon, it takes about 40 seconds.” Itʼs believed that Tshirtify is the only on-demand digital printers to use the Aeoon Kyo 12 as it has a temperamental nature that needs a lot of tinkering and patience.
T
The road to the current successful output has been rocky. Mark Proctor, head of production was flown out to the Aeoon head office in Austria to understand the nature of the printer and how to enable it to perform at full capacity. Mr Proctor returned to the Tshirtify production hub in Stone,
Staffordshire with fresh insight and the tricks of the trade. The printer needs to be maintained at a perfect temperature and humidity level.
He explains that: “If you can maintain the environment and the printer-head quality then the output quality is consistent.” Not unlike a human or a vehicle, the printer needs to be at a

perfect temperature and water levels to function. If the humidity drops or the temperature increases above certain levels, the performance diminishes.
So, Mr Proctor set about creating a structure around the printer to contain the humidity level. Pipes with a steady flow of vapour were added along with heaters and air conditioning units. The difference has been vast, partly due to the production hub being a large open space, it means that the temperature and humidity levels are contained, easy to monitor and also, quick to change should they be too low or high. Mr Daley added: “Itʼs a great machine. When it works at full capacity, itʼs the fastest printer ever!”

The hard work and patience involved has been enormous, but it has paid off. It now means that Tshirtify can print higher quality garments faster for clients all around the world, such as artists, musicians, sports people and social influencers, all generating a secondary or tertiary income from their main business focus. And if youʼre wondering about the Brother printers, they were put to good use. A local YMCA store in Newcastle-under-Lyme recently had an open day, encouraging children to design T shirts and printing them on site, with a profit going to the YMCA.
