Epson UK presents Print Award to Birmingham City University student

E

pson UK has presented the Outstanding Use of Print Award to Birmingham City University's Facility of Arts, Design and Media student, Priti Patel. Ms Patel received the award at the universityʼs annual Final Year Degree Show in June. The annual award is part of a long-standing sponsorship Epson has with the department and aims to reward students who are pushing the boundaries of print and using this medium in exciting, creative and innovative ways. Heather Kendle, market development manager, Epson Europe said: “These awards are a great opportunity for Epson to work with students who we believe will become the creative leaders of tomorrow. We are always keen to understand how the next generation of upcoming artists and creatives are using our print technologies to deliver their creative vision and Pritiʼs dynamic work is a great example of how outstanding vibrancy and colour continues to be a critical factor in the creative process.” Ms Patelʼs winning printed portfolio was inspired by the bold colours and distinctive tones of Egyptian culture, and supported by a dissertation focused on finding new pigments for sustainable inks. Ms Patel added: “Print as a modern medium fascinates me and I was intrigued to see how the latest printing technologies could breathe new life into colours and designs more generally associated with traditional cultures. I think I have achieved this with the prints represented in my portfolio and Iʼm so pleased and proud to have been awarded this prize in recognition of all the work put into my portfolio.”
