Focus on Bags The water bottle handbagtrend

One key bag trend that is set to explode in 2021 is the water bottle handbag. With many of us using 2020 as the opportunity to improve our wellness and drink more water, designers have been busy creating bags for us to carry our reusable water bottles wherever we go.

T

he global reusable water bottle market is currently valued at $292.9m and is expected to reach $429.8m by 2026, a sure sign that a shift away from traditional bottled water is on the cards. Leading the way in 2020 in the water bottle handbag movement was Chanel with its Lambskin Quilted CC bag in its Cruise 2020 line, with other designers following suit in A/W 2020.

Speaking to fashion website, The Zoe Report, Melissa Morris, founder of Métier London, provided her thoughts on this trend. She believes that water bottle bags have become a desired item due to the combination of the current lockdown and the increased focus on sustainability. But for her, the inspiration to create her version of the water bottle bag was in response to requests from clients and friends, which she says many of her designs originate from.

She says: "They love to tell me a problem to find a solution for. In this case I met my friend, Isabelle Kountoure from the Financial Times, for a walk when lockdown eased in London and she asked me to make this for her."

Melissa immediately loved the idea, and during their walk when it started to rain, she has another genius thought: the bags should hold an umbrella, too. In turn, the label's chic Water Bottle Holder fits both everyday necessities perfectly. It makes sense that fashion brands and designers have recognised the eco-conscious habits of consumers and have created a product that appeals to them. This trend is already filtering through into the high street with the likes of Accessorize offering options.

In the printwear market, your options are pretty limited at the moment, with Quadra and The Clever Baggers currently supplying water bottle bags, among others. But as with other retail trends, this one will surely filter through in the coming months. So watch this space.
