ax Technology, what is it? It sounds like any other catchphrase that just gets bandied around. In a nutshell, this new technology will allow brands, retailers and decorators to achieve previously unattainable print applications.
One of the key features of this new technology is XDi. XDi delivers revolutionary 3D capabilities for new, high-density graphic decoration that can simulate embroidery, vinyl, and heat transfer in a single, waste-free digital process. The new XDi, which is based on Kornit’s patents, allows fulfillers and brands to expand their offerings to include new-to-market, innovative decorations without the inefficiencies and cost of operating analogue technologies. During the live announcement of the new technology, Ronen Samuel, CEO, explained that the COVID-19 pandemic had accelerated the drive towards DTG printing on-demand, because of the boom in e-commerce. Thus, creating an inflection point and a huge shift in the market. He continued to explain that the only way for brands and manufacturers to achieve on-demand manufacturing in a sustainable way, is through digital printing. He said that Kornit Digital is playing to this market. “Max Technology will accelerate the move to on-demand manufacturing,” he added.
On-demand printing It’s with the launch of the Atlas Max that Kornit aims to meet this demand for freedom of design and self-expression through on-demand printing. The Atlas Max incorporates the new Max Technology, and many more features besides, as Omer Kulka, CMO, explained during the launch. He said the new Atlas Max features all of the best bits of Kornit innovation built over time, brought together in one machine. “This new technology will open up a new world of applications and imagination,” he added.

capabilities, but it also features Kornit’s new patent-pending ActiveLoad system, which automates the loading and unloading of garments onto the platen. Omer explained that this technology removes the burden of manual and labour-intensive media handling in textile decoration, which means optimal output can be achieved 24/7. “This solves a lot of headaches, for a lot of people,” he added.
Until now, the Atlas Max has been running in four beta sites globally and has successfully been meeting the demands of the most demanding customers. “Our customers have a strong, growing need for retail quality and additional applications, and we are confident the Kornit Atlas Max will equip us to meet that demand,” added Scott Valancy, COO, Monster Digital, which beta-tested the new system.
Sustainable manufacturing To complete the sustainable manufacturing on-demand concept, Kornit revealed the printer’s green credentials, ranging from the production of the unit to the consumables. Omer explained: “We actually measured the carbon footprint it requires to produce the system itself, and for every Atlas Max system that is being bought we will plant trees in forests that we started in Israel.” By planting trees, this ensures that every Atlas Max that comes off the factory production line is carbon neutral. The Max Technology is expected to be rolled out to the Kornit Presto system shortly, which will mean additional lucrative market segments such as sports, athleisure and home décor will also benefit from this advancement in technology, which can only mean good news for many. The Atlas Max is available now, and from Q1 2022 the upgrade will be made available for existing Atlas users.
