The Promo Column New year, new hope
Just when we thought we could throw away masks, they’re back. The government’s recent changes to coronavirus guidelines – a volte face if you’ll pardon the pun – show how fluid the situation we are in remains. Promotional products commentator, Stuart Derrick, reports on this good ol’ health and safety products to keep us all safe.
T
here were recommendations to work from home, if possible, again, travel
restrictions for those entering the country, and a requirement to mask up again in certain settings including retail, public transport, and entertainment venues including cinemas and theatres.
Rather than go rooting around for a tatty old mask that has seen better days, it’s probably time to invest in some new ones. Senator may be better known for its writing instrument, but it also produces FFP2 masks under the brand DMASKS. The company offers customisable FFP2 masks made in Germany starting from 1,000 pieces. Mask come in a sealed polybag and include a one-colour print on the mask and up to four-colour insert with your choice of company branding.
The manufacturing and production process is fulfilled entirely at Senator’s site in the heart of Germany to guarantee the usual perfect quality for full protection. Thanks to a customisable DIN A6 paper insert and option of a logo print on the mask, your chosen brand is always visible. According to the Health & Safety Executive, the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends FFP2 and N95 respirators in hospitals where aerosol generating procedures are being performed.
Tackling COVID
For companies looking for a non-disposable option, Total Merchandise has added the Maskari Advanced 3 Layer Face to its range. These custom printed face coverings are made from three-ply fabric that is protected by the anti-microbial treatment and can be washed (at 40°C) and reused for up to 30 times without losing the effectiveness of the HeiQ agents.
HeiQ Viroblock is designed to inhibit the growth and persistence of bacteria and enveloped viruses on textile surfaces. It’s a unique combination of registered silver

Climate emergency
Besides tackling COVID, the world got its thinking hat on recently at COP26 to ponder how to tackle the climate emergency. As with lots of big challenges, the answer comes down to lots of smaller actions we can take as individuals, communities and countries.
Minimising plastic use is a message that we are all getting used to hearing and COP26 saw plastic-free Re:Water water bottles on the big stage, literally. The bottles are made of 100% recycled aluminium and contain British spring water. The bottles keep water cooler and fresher for longer and can be recycled and refilled after use. The brand supplied 27,500 bottles of spring water at COP26, the second time it had been chosen by the government as the eco-friendly brand was appointed as the official water supplier for delegates at the G7 Summit in Cornwall in June. Re:Water has also signed up to the United Nations-backed global campaign Race to Zero, which aims to halve global emissions by 2030.
Bottled at source in Herefordshire with pure English spring water, Re:Water bottles are a sustainable and genuine solution to single-use plastic. As the bottle is made from 100% recycled aluminium, it uses 95% less energy to produce compared to new aluminium.
Research has shown that by refilling and Rebottled Tumbler 2-pack
reusing the bottle just 2.5 times, users can offset the added carbon emissions needed to create a Re:Water bottle.
Stylish recycling
Clipper is also looking to show that recycling can be stylish and purposeful with its Rebottled Tumbler 2-pack which features unique glassware made from upcycled wine bottles. Millions of wine bottles are thrown away every year after just one use, but Rebottled upcycles them into 100% sustainable products. Rebottled has so far saved 235,326 bottles from being thrown away, giving those bottles a chance at a happy, second life.
Glasses can be printed with a logo or text to create an original, sustainable and practical gift. They’re delivered in an original gift box made from recycled, FSC-certified cardboard.
Finally, as we step timidly into a new year, who knows what will await us? Well, there’s only one way to find out – break out the fortune cookies, courtesy of our friends at Just a Drop. Its promotional fortune cookies are a fun, unique and versatile way to market your company. The company can add your branding to the fortune cookie wrapper, which comes in a choice of 12 different colours, and the double-sided message slip inside can contain a message, an image or a logo, all in full colour.
So good luck to you all and a happy New Year.
