Amsterdam. In a 400-page design booklet, all our ideas, all details, the storyline including new characters as well as special effects and technology were visualized. With this design booklet, we went into another pitch to find the right theming company and the company that would implement all the audio, video and special effects. We are overjoyed to be able to finally implement the project with the world-renowned company P&P Projects. P&P has already worked for all major parks worldwide and therefore understood perfectly how to bring the famous US film studios from Burbank to life in Bottrop.

Were there any challenges during the construction phase? If so, how did you overcome them?

The fact that we implemented the new Multi Dimension Coaster into an already existing infrastructure led to some challenges – for example, the complete gutting of a complex theming like that of the former ICE AGE Adventure.

Some of the planning and construction had to be anticyclical. For example, large props and scenes with heights of up to 8 meters had to be installed in advance, even before the track could be closed or partition walls could be finally pulled in. At the same time, scenery parts, lighting trusses and props were already hanging from the ceiling in their final positions, even though no track parts or scenes had yet been installed underneath. We had to work within a very restricted movement radius. All construction processes had to be meticulously planned and coordinated in advance. Here, our technical Project Manager Wiebe Damstra from Damstra Techniek BV (NL) and our general contractor, the Brüninghoff Goup, did an amazing job! In addition to the massive track sections, the 360-degree turntable and all scenes of the ride were also built around with a massive steel skeleton construction. The heavy construction machinery required for this - such as numerous construction machines, heavy-duty cranes, scissor lifts and trailers for transporting the track sections - could only be brought in via a single gate at the rear of the hall.

Is the ride finished ready for when the season is able to start?

Due to the current Corona situation, it is not clear yet

when Movie Park Germany can open its doors for the 2021 season. We are still waiting for an official decision made by the government and federal state of NRW when and under what circumstances theme parks can open. However, the construction of the ride is making great progress, test runs have already taken place. More complex and time-consuming, however, will be the adjustment of all the show effects and media content to the ride cycle. The ride would be scheduled for a summer opening in early June 2021.

As the ride is not fully finished yet, test runs have only taken place with dummies so far. But as far as the official examination by the German TÜV is finished, we will also test the new ride under “real” conditions with real people to make final improvements before opening the new attraction.

Can you give me some ‘Fun Facts’ about the ride?

The new coaster is set on a 3.800 square meter footprint, has a speed of up to 60 km/h and includes elements such as a double launch (backwards and forwards) and a 360-degree rotating platform that changes the trains’ direction. It is Germany’s first multidirectional coaster. The capacity is 900 pax / h – including 3 trains / 12 seats
