NEI collaborates with Australian attraction

N

ewman Entertainment International (NEi) has been engaged by Victorian attraction, Fairy Park, to deliver upgrades to its audio

and show control system.

The team was tasked to complete two phases of upgrades over the past 12 months which included high-definition audio production (from script development to recording), plus installation of show control systems and speakers, working with the parks existing analogue systems. Newman Entertainment has also installed a superb world class ambient sound system across the grounds which has added another

magical dimension to the overall experience. Family attraction Fairy Park, located an hour’s drive from Melbourne, has taken over 60 years to create. Set on a rocky granite outcrop, on the edge of an extinct volcano, the park features animated fairy-tale scenes housed in awe-inspiring castles, cottages and caves all set amongst beautifully manicured gardens. At the park’s medieval Camelot playground, children can explore secret passages, climb turreted towers and let their imaginations run wild. For the displays, visitors witness Cinderella at the Grand Ball, see Jack in his beanstalk and hear the story of

Legoland Florida opening Planet Legoland

Legoland Florida Resort, Winter Haven, Florida, opened Planet Legoland on 16 April. “During the past 12 months, we’ve all learned how resilient and creative our children are. They can play out stories, discover details and feel the sense of accomplishment when they build and play with Lego,” said Legoland Florida Resort President Rex Jackson. “With Planet Legoland, there are no rules, just unlimited creativity, empowering children to make the world a brighter place.”

As guests enter, they will encounter a six-foot wide Lego globe, built out of more than 200,000 bricks, awaiting their creations. The first step is to select from one of four different themed stations where guests will create their masterpieces. A Lego model of a castle spaceship sits atop the building

table inspired by Dragons, Knights and Princesses. A Lego pirate ship with a light bulb mast inspires those building at the Vehicles station. A Lego surfing dragon leads creativity at the station for Ninjas. A Lego racing tortoise poses for inspiration at the station for Creatures and Animals. A Duplo station is also available for those younger guests with smaller hands. The stations are designed to encourage guests to explore their individual passions as they build, unbuild and rebuild creations using their imagination. Once built, guests are encouraged to take a selfie with their model and share it using #RebuildTheWorld for all to see. Final step is to place individual models on the globe and once each child places their model, they have helped rebuild the world.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears, among many others. Garry Mayer, director of the Anakie attraction, Fairy Park, said: “Many of these displays use an intricate timer system to operate in tandem with movement, sound and lighting in a variety of triggered applications such as push buttons and sensors. These analogue systems needed upgrading to digital systems and finding the right solution for such specific items has been a challenge. Newman Entertainment have proved to be the right company for the job.”

As the Lego globe at Planet Legoland spans six-feet, guests will maintain that same distance when building in this new experience and all safety guidelines such as face masks, the use of hand sanitizer and reduced capacity will be managed. All bricks in the space will be “quarantined” for 72 hours after being sanitized, and the build stations will be

cleaned several times a day. Planet Legoland is coming to other Legoland Resorts across the globe this spring and summer including Legoland Billund Resort, Legoland California Resort, Legoland Deutschland Resort, Legoland Japan Resort, Legoland Malaysia Resort and Legoland Windsor Resort.

Proposed ASTM standard for Water Slide rider acceleration data

A proposed ASTM International standard will establish a test method for obtaining acceleration data on water slides using human test subjects. ASTM International’s amusement rides and devices committee (F24) is developing the proposed standard. Data obtained through the standard is crucial to developing and calculating the expected forces riders feel on a water slide. The level of these forces can be key to ensure the riders do not experience an unexpected event or safety-related incident.

“The proposed standard will establish the method for obtaining data on acceleration forces users would feel when riding on various types of water slides,” said Andreas Tanzer, director of research, design, and standards at ProSlide Technology. “The intent is to have consistency in obtaining the acceleration data so it can be processed and authenticated for riders on all water slides.”

Data acquired through the new standard test method (WK72594) can also be used

to further current and future ride designs, while maintaining the expected level of ride safety.

According to Tanzer, the committee vice- chair, manufacturers and regulators will benefit most from the proposed standard. Manufacturers will be able to validate the design forces on a water slide rider, while regulators will have access to data to ensure rides do not exceed the prescribed forces within globally recognised water slide standards, such as ASTM F2376.
