Cover Story
Working with IP Having an in-house media studio gives Triotech the flexibility to create its own intellectual property (IP), to work with existing IP, or create new IP. For instance, Triotech has created attractions with global IPs such as Sony’s Ghostbusters for Merlin Entertainment, and Uderzo’s Asterix for Compagnie des Alpes in France, but also LEGO’s NINJAGO: The Ride with its 10th installation being planned. This exemplifies Triotech’s capability to seamlessly integrate all relevant aspects of an IP and deliver world-class, award-winning attractions. Triotech also works with park-specific IP. An example is that of Knott’s
Berry Farm’s ‘Bear-y Tales’. In this instance, Triotech’s studio integrated the IP and Boysen Bears and Coyotes characters from an old iconic ride that had been shut down for decades. This re-imagining of a classic illustrates the team’s talent and ability to fulfil a client’s vision. In all the above cases, Triotech’s goal was to immerse guests into the IP’s
universe. Everything - from story to theming and gameplay - had to therefore stay true to the brand. Of course, the studio, with the strength of its design team, can create
completely new IP for a client, creating entirely new characters and a uniqueness factor that the park can then leverage into further opportunities, such as merchandising. This has been the case for the Aquarium at the Boardwalk owned by
Kuvera Partners. The studio developed a custom movie, written, directed, and conceived by Triotech, in close collaboration with the Kuvera team. The story is centred around two memorable characters: Aquarius the octopus, and Finn, a pufferfish. Kuvera Partners’ overarching vision was to have these two characters become the main guides for the entire aquarium experience.
Destination-level successes It’s been a busy year for Triotech, with major attractions having opened on three continents. The first of these was the BATTLEGROUNDS WORLD AGENT walkthrough
attraction. Set in the universe of PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, the world- famous video games IP, it officially opened on 5 May 2023 in Seoul, Korea. The 750 square metre adventure utilises interactivity, immersion, media, motion, and projection mapping to create a thrilling journey for guests. Visitors embark on a group experience with up to 16 people as they
journey through three zones, each featuring a unique challenge. The project was completed by Triotech’s in-house studio, engineering, and R&D teams, and included the design, story, show, theming, audio, and special effects. The very next week, Triotech and BoldMove Nation’s Champi’Folies
opened at Le PAL theme park in France, as covered in the May 2023 issue of Park World. This interactive media-based dark ride features the cutting-edge Smash & Reload attraction with an interactive storyline, thrilling action, and impressive theming.
Finally, Carnival Chaos Hyper Ride opened at Clifton Hill, Niagara Falls.
This 6,000 square feet dynamic, action-packed interactive dark ride features seven fully interactive scenes as well as programmable digital theming inside the attraction. It’s set to become the new highlight of Clifton Hill’s bustling tourist promenade. The exterior of the building has been entirely themed to accentuate the
carnival setting of the ride. With its vehicles emerging outside and the loading area visible from the exterior, passers-by see and hear the guests laughing and screaming from the thrills they’re experiencing - which is rather unique for dark rides. Each of these projects demonstrate Triotech’s commitment to its ongoing
mission: to bring destination-park level experiences and attractions to regional parks.
What’s next? Triotech has momentum - and it’s going to use it. The company is now working on a major interactive media-enhanced dark coaster that will open soon. The attraction, located in the United States, is a colossal endeavour and its unique features will make it a must-see. In the EMEA region, Triotech has announced that it is developing a new
attraction based on the Hasbro’s Transformers IP for Saudi Entertainment Ventures (SEVEN) in Saudi Arabia. The interactive dark ride is to be installed at SEVEN’s entertainment destination in the Al Hamra district of Riyadh city, with two additional attractions set to open at other SEVEN’s entertainment destinations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. SEVEN is developing the Kingdom’s entertainment ecosystem by investing
SAR 50 billion to create 21 integrated entertainment destinations with over 150 innovative attractions across 14 cities. It recently announced that it will bring the Transformers brand to its
entertainment destinations across the Kingdom, and the Transformers attractions are expected to feature state-of-the-art rides and captivating environments. Triotech is responsible for the design, engineering, manufacturing, and
installation of these interactive dark rides. These attractions are based on Triotech’s award-winning Hyper Ride platform and will be deployed in several ‘mega FEC’ sites across the Kingdom.
There’s more to come from Triotech too, with further
announcements expected for projects in Saudi Arabia as well as new projects across the world.
