growing suspense and then the thrill of a ship in a storm at the mercy of the elements. And it’s a voyage that really isn’t for the faint of heart as riders endure not just water (of course) but fire, snow, thunder and lightning, and temperatures between a chilling -20°C and highs of more than 43°C. This is a dark ride that makes spectacular use of state-of-the-art effects.
Indeed, the layout is more or less the same as the original - it is the special effects which take Valhalla to another level. That said, there was a backwards section of the ride which now travels forwards in order to allow for the inclusion of more special effects in this section - and the result is uninterrupted immersion combined with hair-raising thrills. The journey becomes treacherous as voyagers are subjected to the ride’s
largest drop, plummeting into complete darkness, only to ascend once again to the top of the building. Riders then face the wrath of Thor, the god of thunder, as gigantic hammers undulate from on high and drench them, before they are faced with an onslaught of flaming arrows.
A wild wall of fire awaits as voyagers descend Valhalla’s final drop. There
is no escape for guests as their longboat hurtles towards it, only for the flames to be quelled at the last moment by the huge splash of the ship. A finale of fiery explosions brings the ride to a finish as riders come to the
end of their journey - but not without one last blast of water. The Vikings believed that entry into Valhalla was only possible for those
deemed worthy who had met their end battle. This is a ride that truly tests guests to their limits at every twist and turn - so when they do finally reach the end of their journey, just like the Vikings entering the great hall of Valhalla, it is with relief and a sense of wonder and victory.
