Park Update

How do you decide which manufacturers to work with? Efteling is always looking for partners to work with us. They have to offer well-established technology and unique products. When selecting partners, we always take into account the cost-quality balance.

How closely do you like to work with them in developing new rides and attractions? We like our partners to be involved from the beginning through the development to the end.

Do you have any new rides or experiences opening in 2019? Tell me about these? Efteling always has plans! This spring, we will start the construction of twelve new Woodland Houses in the existing Holiday Village Efteling Bosrijk, each accommodating 12 people, adding a total of 144 beds. We hope to have more announcements later on in the year too!

What do you do to ensure your park is as accessible and enjoyable as possible for visitors with disabilities? Efteling collaborates with specialised partners for advice on how to ensure that our rides and restaurants are as accessible as possible, so that fairytales are brought to life for all our guests. Nearly all attractions have wheelchair access or offer alternative options and for our popular dark ride Droomvlucht, we have introduced audio and visual techniques to replicate the same experience as on the ride. There is a special map for visitors with disabilities, with symbols per attraction to illustrate access possibilities. The map includes practical information about accessibility of attractions and toilets, wheelchair access, and accessibility for assistance and guide dogs. This information is also available online, to help prepare disabled guests ahead of their visit.

Live entertainment is a key part of the offering at Efteling isn’t it? Efteling has always recognised the value and importance of entertainment on both a large and small scale. It gives us the opportunity to connect with our visitors and tell our stories.

We offer a variety of entertainment, from seasonal productions, individual meet and greets to smaller scale live park shows for families with younger children. Guests can also experience our popular live park show Raveleijn, where 1,200 spectators learn about the story of how five talented riders free the ancient village Raveleijn from years of domination by an evil ruler and his five-headed dragon.

What does your park have to offer that others in the region do not? Efteling is all about storytelling. Not only in the Fairytale Forest, but also in the larger rides such as The Flying Dutchman, dark ride Fata Morgana and dive coaster Baron 1898.

The combination of the exceptional design by Dutch

artist and founder Anton Pieck, the use of technology and the natural surroundings creates a special Efteling feeling that visitors will feel to their core. Buildings and rides only cover 11% of Efteling and the rest is nature and green. Efteling is also open all year round for 365 days!

What have been your biggest challenges to date and how have you overcome them? It is very important for Efteling to keep exceeding guests’ expectations. In an ever-changing world with evolving demands and continuous developments, it is important to listen to your visitors and to take into account their feedback. Combining all these factors with the latest technology as well as our development plans has resulted in the success of Efteling. Being independent and following our own course of action has proven to be the right choice so far. In 2017, we welcomed five million guests, an important milestone in the history of the park providing a solid foundation for Efteling to continue to grow.

What are your biggest achievements? Hard to say, perhaps listening to our employees is one of our good qualities. I am a strong believer of taking care of our colleagues and bringing out the best in them. At Efteling, our employees go above and beyond to please our guests making a real difference in their experience. We make sure that we listen to our employees in order to create the best working environment for them in which they can succeed.
