Sweet success for Humbug Totally renovated Great Humbug Adventure opens at Santa’s Village

anta’s Village, the children’s theme park in Jefferson, New Hampshire, opened its pandemic summer season on July 1 by delivering a new


present for its guests, an all-new version of its popular one-of-a-kind Great Humbug Adventure interactive dark ride. The original version was conceived and developed


completely in-house at Santa’s Village and debuted in 2000, with ride components sourced individually, and all scenes and sets created and installed by park staff. When it came time to upgrade the ride twenty years later, the park teamed up with Sally Dark Rides.


Totally original The original concept and storyline stayed the same. Scrooge has a house in Santa’s Village, and it’s full of pesky Humbugs that are ruining his Christmas spirit. The ride features a new queue experience, that is hosted by an animatronic Scrooge accompanied by one of the pesky humbugs. During the pre-show, Scrooge explains how to use the special Giggle Gadgets to “tickle” the humbugs. Once the humbugs are tickled, they turn

happy and stop wreaking havoc, and instead start helping spread Christmas cheer throughout the land. Tickllng the Humbugs scores points for the guests as they compete with their fellow riders. One of the most notable changes made during


the refurbishment is the overhaul of the targeting and scoring system, which created a more accurate gaming experience. Each target changes color after being hit to provide additional scoring opportunities during the ride. “This was a terrific collaboration between Santa’s


Village and Sally Dark Rides,” says park president Christian Gainer, aka the “Happy Elf.” “They did a great job of updating our exclusive original concept with some of the latest and best features available. And our guests are loving it all just as much as we are. “The Great Humbug Adventure was a totally original


and mostly homemade ride that we created at Santa’s Village twenty years ago,” explains Gainer, “and it’s one of those features that guests remember and come back to enjoy over and over. After two decades it
