EDUCATION SHOW 2019 PREVIEW
will talk through Ofsted’s new push for a strong and rounded curriculum and will offer solutions with an example of her curriculum with interconnected knowledge-rich themes underpinned by vital skills. Steve Cook, of the TES Creative School of the Year, has ways to get an academic and Arts balance and champion the creative despite the government’s insistence on EBacc subjects. Isabella Wallace of ‘Pimp Your Lesson’ fame looks to explore time-smart teaching and show how to save time lesson planning and assessing. Adding to the line-up is Zainab Patel, Assistant Head, who will showcase her research upon the power of vocal feedback. The Policy in Practice content will cover teacher
professionalism, RSE, research in schools, shifting education systems paradigms, education trends 2019, and social, emotional, and mental health. Seminars from the educational lighthouse, TES, are led by Lord Jim Knight and will delve into shifting our current education paradigm to one that benefits the most learners. Laura McInerney the leading education journalist at the Guardian will go through the education trends of 2019 and beyond, and Simen Spurkland of Norway will champion teacher professionalism and the benefits it can bring. The School Business theatre will present a
masterclass in simplifying procurement, boosting school funds, retaining talent and hunting it down, whilst surpassing accountability measures. It will feature case study sessions from leading schools around the country such as the story from Jane Nolan, TES Headteacher of the year, with her mindset over matter and how she transformed her school in three years. Her transformation story outlines how her school in a significantly deprived area, at risk of special measures with chronically low staff morale and crisis level teacher retention rates rose to be in the top 1% of primary schools in the country for progress. Underpinning her success in change management is how her approach is fundamentally about your people; their receptivity, their motivation and their own goals.
Comprehensive range of school supplies under one roof Much of the space at the Education Show is taken up by an array of school suppliers. Visitors
can view the products, see practical demos and quiz suppliers to get the best fit for their needs. Outside of the agenda programme, there’s time to browse furniture and classroom equipment, school business tools and teaching materials from the likes of YPO, Playtime by Fawns, Reed, Prim-Ed Publishing, OCR, Staedtler, TJ Publishers, Maths No Problem, Coram Life, Morleys, Kidzania, Edding, Primary Science Teaching Trust, Pearson Education, Advanced Furniture, Eden Learning Spaces, The Consortium and Just Enough UK, Phonic Books, Governors for Schools, and Bloomsbury. Moving to London has also meant a move to sit alongside leading edtech show Bett which has even more suppliers and CPD sessions. Bett specialises in showcasing edtech products, where more than 800 suppliers range from data management and business solutions, software and hardware through to digital teaching tools and learning materials. Bett’s content programme features more than 175 speakers who will talk around key themes: 21st Century Skills and Knowledge, Innovation in classroom tech and resources, Institute Tech and Solutions to drive improvements in student
outcomes and operations, and SEN and Neurodiversity integration. It will have a central stage plus a supporting theatre focused for Schools, another on HE and FE while a fourth will give space for practical demos. Notable speakers that can be seen at Bett are talented authors Anthony Horrowitz and Cressida Cowell, celebrated education thought-leader Sir Anthony Seldon, Vice-Chancellor, University of Buckingham, and popular influencer Mr P. Microsoft, while industry giants such as Microsoft, Lenovo and Instructure run their own dedicated, hugely popular workshops and meetings. The hosting of the Education Show and Bett
under one roof is intended to save leaders and decision makers time by being able to see everything in one place, at one time. The two events make for the leading national education event of the year, attracting the education community from all over the UK and overseas. It will be the place to catch up with old colleagues, meet new contacts, discover products, find suppliers, learn, enjoy inspiration and exchange ideas. Bett Global Portfolio Director Rachel Brodie commented, “We have taken the bold move of moving the Education Show to alongside Bett, appearing in London this January rather than Birmingham later in the year. With ever-more pressure on budgets and time the move is designed to serve leaders and educators, saving them time on research and giving confidence in their buying with the most comprehensive range of education products available in one place.” No matter what the school budget, the agenda
programme makes the Education Show unmissable for school leaders, practitioners and business managers who have a passion for learning and want to refresh their approach. Both the Education Show and Bett are free to attend, with one badge giving access to both events. Visitors can pass freely between the shows which are alongside each other at ExCeL London.
