14 BESA CORNER Dear Reader,
Welcome to the latest issue of Education Today, and the last for 2018. This month, in the grandly titled “European Year of Cultural Heritage”, we focus on cultural education in the UK’s schools, and showcase a couple of great examples of it in practice. In the first, we hear from Jacqui O’Hanlon, Director of Education at the RSC, who discusses what young people are telling us when it comes to cultural education; while in the second, Andy Puttock, Group Education Director at Nord Anglia Education, argues that cultural education is now more important than ever and must evolve beyond classroom-based studies.
Also in this month’s issue, we look ahead to the annual ed tech trade show Bett, marking your card with some interesting exhibitors and examining the show’s main themes; and we also do the same for the Education Show, newly relocated from its previous March berth at Birmingham’s NEC to co-reside with its sister show Bett at ExCel in London’s Docklands.
We continue our regular section shining a spotlight on the many aspects of SEND with Dr Asha Patel and Kate Sarginson, have Graham Cooper and Kirsty Bertenshaw as always offering insight and advice, and a great roster of commenters sharing their thoughts on the world of education.
What’s more, we continue our section on education writers, “From the pen of…”, with the Outward Bound Trust’s Kevin Long, author of “Awe in Action, Delivering High Impact Learning”, who urges schools to engage in work that bridges differences, joins scholarship with service, and helps students take ownership of their learning.
Remember, we love to hear from you, you can get in touch with us via Twitter @EdTodayMag, Facebook and our homepage, as well as by phone or email.
Have a great and refreshing Christmas break, and enjoy the issue!
