MERKUR SPECIAL For the excellent development prospects

and staff training and advancement, the Gauselmann Group received FOCUS MONEY magazine’s Top Career Prospects award in 2016. Furthermore, in 2015 the Gauselmann Group received the Best Place to Learn quality seal. Three times in a row – in 2015, 2016 and 2017 – the Gauselmann subsidiary also received Focus magazine’s Top National Employer award. The high quality of the CASINO MERKUR-SPIELOTHEK offering is mirrored in the awards the company has received. In 2016, CASINO MERKUR- SPIELOTHEK was voted ‘most popular gaming arcade’ in a national survey conducted by FOCUS MONEY, a recognition that was repeated in early 2017. In both years, CASINO MERKUR- SPIELOTHEK earned the accolade ‘very good’ in the five individual categories Professionalism, Choice of games, Service, Staff and Atmosphere. The company also successfully participated in the TOP SERVICE Germany 2016 competition, which was organised by ServiceRating GmbH in collaboration with the Handelsblatt newspaper as service partner and the University of Mannheim. Here, CASINO MERKUR- SPIELOTHEK belongs to the excellence group. In 2013, the Gauselmann subsidiary also held its own in Germany’s biggest service ranking by the daily newspaper “DIE WELT” and was the only company in the gaming machine industry to be awarded the Service Champion Bronze seal.

All this helps to foster staff well-being and encourages them to contribute to the company’s success through motivation and commitment. Within the context of the „GESUNDE UNTERNEHMEN“ (HEALTHY COMPANIES) initiative, Gauselmann AG was recognised in the Gold category in June 2017 for its exemplary corporate concept in the area of occupational health and safety. The initiative is sponsored by the “IFU – Institut für Unternehmenswerte” (IFU

Healthcare and prevention also play an

important role within the Gauselmann Group. For over 30 years, the entrepreneurial family has supported the company sports association “Betriebssportgemeinschaft MERKUR Gauselmann e.V.” (BSG). With approximately 1,000 members and 23 disciplines, the BSG is the largest company sports association in the Minden-Lübbecke district and one of the largest in the whole of North Rhine-Westphalia. Also, as part of the Fit & Fun by Gauselmann occupational health management system introduced in 2008, sporting and medical initiatives at the workplace are continuously offered and promoted. In the interim, a large number of concepts aimed at maintaining employees’ motivation and performance levels have been developed and implemented: from massages at the workplace, flu jabs, skin

Institute for Corporate Values). The corporate management expresses its appreciation in a number of ways through a wide range of additional staff benefits.

This intensive employee development helps

to foster a healthy climate among the workforce and strengthen staff loyalty. Thus on the occasion of the annual jubilee celebration, Paul and Armin Gauselmann thank long-serving employees and selected retirees for their 25 and in some cases 40 years of service and their commitment to the company. Founded in 1998 by Paul Gauselmann and 26 former employees, the Merkur Seniors Club allows former colleagues to maintain active social contact with the eastern Westphalian games makers even after they have retired, under the motto “Once Gauselmann, always Gauselmann”.

1957-2017: Gauselmann Group from the early days

An exceptional entrepreneurial story F

rom armchair entrepreneur to industry leader in 60 years: this is the best way to describe the success story of Paul Gauselmann and his company in a nutshell. To this day, Paul

Gauselmann plots and steers the course of the Gauselmann Group. In as little as six decades, what started out as a part-time one-man business has evolved into a global group employing 12,000 people and generating sales in excess of two-and-a-half billion euros. What’s more, since the 1980s the family-run company headquartered in eastern Westphalia has been the undisputed market leader in the German

amusement machine industry. The foundation stone for the corporate

group was laid in 1957 when on top of his normal 48-hour week Paul Gauselmann started up a sideline installing jukeboxes with 17 jukeboxes, 2,000 D-Marks in savings and 100,000 D-Marks in crossed bills of exchange. Only a year later, his brother Willi joined the business, followed in 1962 by his brother Eugen. This trio was to pave the way for what became the genesis of today’s corporate group. In 1964, Paul Gauselmann eventually ventured into full-time self-employment. And he had a

very special trump card up his sleeve: he bought up second-hand US jukeboxes on the cheap, overhauled the technology and gave the American imports a typically German-style cabinet (‘The new outfit’). His entry into production was thus sealed.

Another important milestone in the company

history was the ‘invention’ of the modern arcade in the form of CASINO MERKUR- SPIELOTHEK. The first was opened in Delmenhorst, Lower Saxony, in 1974. The company opened its first international entertainment centre in the Netherlands in
