Former MGM Resorts CEO to chair new gaming watchdog in UAE F
ormer chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International Jim Murren has been named to chair the board of directors of a regulatory body established by the United Arab
Emirates to run a national lottery and commercial gaming. The recent creation of a federal authority is seen as a sign of the Middle Eastern country opening its doors to major casino operators. The General Commercial Gaming Regulatory
Authority will be tasked with helping the country set up its gambling industry and establish its debut casino resort, the Wynn Al Marjan Island in Ras Al Khaimah, one of the UAE’s seven emirates. According to state news agency WAM, the

acau is set to host the Global Gaming Expo Asia and the Asian IR Expo from 4 to 6 June next year at
the Venetian Macao without any event planned for Singapore. The events – organised by the
American Gaming Association and Reed Exhibitions – will mark a return to an in-person format. It is believed that over 100
exhibitors and 8,000 visitors will come to the city for the events. Yip Je Choong, the senior vice
president of commercial, APAC, RX, expressed great enthusiasm in an announcement for the return of G2E Asia to its “home” in Macau. “We look forward to welcoming Asia’s gaming and integrated resort community back to Macau next year with a dynamic show floor, an exciting keynote line-up, and an education program that defines the future of gaming and integrated resorts industry in Asia,” he said.
