EVOLUTION GAMING
Adopting New Tech vs True Innovation
Evolution Gaming’s Marketing Manager, Curtis Roach, examines some brilliant new innovations and market-disrupting ideas that are heading our way.
I
n the past few years, it’s become clear that the online gaming industry has embraced the digital revolution, as we’ve seen a new wave of innovations come through. Players are now able to enjoy products like Live Casino from a desktop, tablet or mobile and happily spin the
reels with the benefit of some of the most cutting-edge features in design, graphics and gameplay. Whether it was the advent of progressive jackpots or the
advancement in 3D technology, online casino game features have found new life and innovation throughout the years, with the newest developers even looking into virtual reality. Unfortunately, it seems that much of what is crowned as
“innovative” is often misaligned with players’ desires (e.g. skill-based gaming), has little to do with making gaming more fun for players, or is just a recycling of old games on new tech, which just keeps us afloat as an industry and doesn’t represent true innovation or market disruption. There are however a few good examples of true innovation that has nothing to do with the technology the game relies upon but more to do with the gameplay itself and making it generally more exciting for the players, offering something completely new. A prime example of this, we believe, can be seen with our latest game release, Lightning Roulette.
What we feel really makes this game innovative is the
Lucky Number and Payouts feature. When a player makes a bet on a game, the amount of lucky numbers (1 to 5), and the lucky numbers themselves, are generated by a random number generator. The amount they are multiplied by is also randomly generated. The lucky multiplier numbers can range from 50x all the way up to a massive 500x, which – as you can imagine – creates a very exciting scenario for the players. All of which is presented within a stunning game show style environment, reminiscent more of an interactive entertainment show rather than a standard casino game. Our Chief Product Officer, Todd Haushalter, spoke about
how “This is the most complex product we have ever created, but all that complexity is hidden from the players, who only see that each round, between one and five numbers are struck by lightning and given magnified pay outs of 50x – 500x. To do this we combined digital random number generators with the Live Roulette wheel, which has never been done before. The studio itself is also incredibly advanced.” Lightning Roulette is the fastest game in Evolutions’
history to attract 100,000 new players – in under one month and all whilst still operating in its beta phase. A great testament to this latest innovation and similarly, the market’s appetite for it. Going forward, as new technology such as Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and even Artificial Intelligence become more readily available and increasingly adopted within industry, it’s exciting to think about what brilliant new innovations and market disrupting ideas will arise in our market. This will be largely lead by consumer expectation as other sectors such as retail and finance take leaps forward, we’ll have no choice but to follow suit. However, as an industry we must be careful not completely
Lightning Roulette is the combination of normal Roulette
and various RNG elements, which is an industry first. Just as in our traditional Live Roulette game, Lightning Roulette provides the opportunity of massive multiplayer scalability, where it can be played by a virtually unlimited number of players.
rely on these concepts to increase consumer engagement. These concepts alone will not captivate audiences completely, at Evolution we know that we must keep the main objective at heart to make games more fun for the players. Evolving as our customers do.
