The changing home improvement landscape

ccording to a recent report by Mintel*, the DIY market saw double
digit growth making it one of the best performing non-essential markets throughout the pandemic. Homeowners were looking at ways in which to improve their homes and with travel limited, more disposable income meant home renovations were at the top of consumers’ priority lists. economic uncertainty with cost-of-living increases and bigger investments into non-essential retail meaning the future is slightly more uncertain for the home improvement market. A report by Builders Merchant Building Index (BMBI) reveals value sales fell -0.9% in April 2022 compared to the same month in 2021, the first decline since January 2021. However, the Kitchen and Bathroom category still performed the strongest overall in value sales. Brassware remains a popular expenditure for homeowners, due to the simple upgrade potential
it provides in home design. The UK is again seeing a shortage of housing stock, bringing us back to the early 2000s when homeowners look to improve not move. Simple updates to brassware can quickly transform a bathroom or kitchen, so it’s predicted this trend will continue to see the brassware market remain steady. While often choosing brassware is the final
decision in a bathroom or kitchen renovation, homeowners are always looking for high-quality, long-lasting products. Taps and showers see the biggest use in the home and also where homeowners can put extra costs on their household bills. It’s always the first tip people suggest when saving water – not running the tap for so long or taking shorter showers. That’s why design, quality and longevity aren’t
the only things consumers are considering when purchasing their brassware. Eco-friendly products are high on people’s agenda, a recent report from Rated People found that 45% of homeowners and residents across the UK are looking to make their homes more environmentally friendly in 2022.

ere at Methven, we’ve been ahead of this trend by investing
significantly in the sustainability of our products by developing patented technologies that help homeowners save water as well as the environment. These products are not only high quality and visually appealing but provide some of the lowest
flow rates in the market, all without compromising on user experience or aesthetics. As we become more environmentally aware, the focus on what products we source will become even more crucial for homeowners as well as choosing products that can help save money on their household bills. Methven has introduced advancements in
showering technology, creating a new generation of high quality, visually appealing chrome showers that provide the lowest flow rates available, without compromising on functionality or aesthetics. Methven currently holds three of the six worldwide patents for showering technology that offers water saving benefits. These include Satinjet®, Aurajet® and
VJet®shower spray technologies, which maximise each individual droplet of water to make contact with the skin in the most effective way. Spray patterns are crucial to the showering experience and Methven’s technologies are designed to provide more generous coverage than conventional needle jets. The patented designs can also help save up to
50% on energy costs and up to 55% on the cost of water used in the shower, ultimately helping to reduce utility bills. Supporting the next generation of bathrooms,
Methven is committed to conserving energy and water to protect the planet for generations to come. As a manufacturer, Methven has pioneered amazing water experiences and challenged convention through its research and innovation to
