elcome to the Best of British supplement 2023, that time of
year when we at BKU celebrate all that’s great about British manufacturing and design in our sector. Our country has a long and proud heritage of manufacturing and design excellence – the Industrial Revolution started here, and our homegrown companies have been producing and innovating ever since. With that in mind, in the following paragraphs we will give you a sense of the excellent work British companies are still doing to this day in the kitchen and bathroom sector, from manufacturers producing the base products that the industry relies on and the distributors who make sure the products get to those who want them, to those companies designing products for a sustainable and greener future. First up this year is Decorative Panels, a family
business established in 1907, manufacturers of panels and flat-pack furniture. Operating from a 206,000ft² purpose-built factory, Decorative Panels Components has the capacity to produce over 650,000 panels per week and specialises in the production of cut, edged, drilled, grooved and shaped panels for manufacturers and retailers, while sister company dp-furniture operates from a 275,000ft² manufacturing and distribution site in the North of England and produces flat pack furniture – with a production capacity of over 15,000 boxes per day, the company is the largest specialist flat pack producer in the UK and one of the largest in Europe.
Next, we move on to Bushboard, a company
which has been developing kitchen and bathroom surfaces in the UK since 1935 but continues to innovate to this day. The company holds to the idea that everyone deserves great design whatever their budget, and this underpins its entire approach to surfacing. Through the application of smart material technology, advanced manufacturing processes and clever installation techniques, Bushboard aims to maximise the design value in every project. All the company’s surfaces are made in the UK. TYDE (part of the Thomas Dudley Group) is
home to over 6,000 trusted plumbing parts. The company makes no secret of being proudly committed to UK manufacturing and its state-of- the-art facilities produce innovative plumbing supplies that installers and end users love and trust. Parent company Thomas Dudley is a 100- year-old family-run company focusing on designing, developing, manufacturing and selling specific products to suit customer needs, ensuring that the long history of British innovation and excellence continues down to the present day. Another manufacturer looking differently at
how everyday products are made is showering products manufacturer Kudos. For over twenty years Kudos has been designing and manufacturing innovative showering products from its enclosure factory in the Lake District and its shower tray facility in Coleraine. During this time the company has built a reputation for producing innovative, precision-engineered luxury shower doors, enclosures and trays that represent excellent value for money. With

complete control over the components and manufacturing process, Kudos aims to maintain the highest standards of quality and performance of all products that leave its premises. Each one is made to deliver the very best in functionality, performance and value. Last but not least for the manufacturers
we turn to Utopia. Utopia is the UK brand leader for complete bathroom solutions, delivering more fitted bathrooms every year than any other UK manufacturer. The company designs and manufactures its bathroom range in the UK and gives a five-year guarantee on its furniture products. Utopia has been designing and manufacturing bathroom furniture, bathroom suites, worktops, mirrors and accessories in the UK for almost 30 years and offers these through a network of over 650 selected retailers covering the UK and Ireland. Wrapping up our review we move on to the
suppliers who make sure that all our great British manufactured goods get from factory to consumer, and where better to finish than with Waterline. Waterline was established in 1985 and became part of the Crown Imperial group of companies in 2011. It is the UK’s largest supplier to the independent kitchen specialist sector. With its distribution head office in Newport Pagnell and depots in Bolton and Bristol, the company is ideally located to satisfy customers’ requirements nationally.
