WELCOME Page Sign Update Ltd has been sold

As I sit here with a tired smile on my face and reflect back on one of the most turbulent years of my life, I can with some certainty say that I have probably had some of the biggest highs and lows ever. One of the big changes in my life that is also relevant to the sign industry is that I sold Sign Update Ltd to Datateam who earlier this year bought UK Sign & Digital exhibition and also more recently bought Image Reports Magazine.

Datateam are in a really good position to turn UK Sign & Digital exhibition into something even more impressive. I think co-locating with their Printwear & Promotion LIVE exhibition is a really smart move that should bring increased visitors. I think it'll also bring in new visitors that have thought that both exhibitions are relevant, but not worth the hassle, time and expense of visiting, but if they can do both for the same effort, then it's certainly going to incentivise a few that otherwise wouldn't have attended. As with any takeover, there will be a busy handover period, and I expect to move onto a new venture in February.

I am intending to attend UK Sign & Digital and stay on the Sign Update stand for the majority of the time. It will be the time to say an emotional goodbye to many of my advertising customers during this time. During my 16 years of owning Sign Update, which I took over from my dad, I have seen huge changes. My dad was struggling to have an online presence, and I remember he paid alot of money to have a really basic website made, but didn't really understand what he was getting. I thought I was the perfect man to take over with a background in IT. I thought I'd be developing a website with an intergrated forum using coding skills, but you don't really need to be a developer to do this anymore and so much of the online stuff is really about social media. Once I am finished at Sign Update I'll probably not look at Facebook, twitter and LinkedIn anymore. Like so many of you, I go on Social Media for one reason and get quickly distracted by an amusing video which adds no value to me life.

Happy new year, from the expanded Sign Update Team Martin Hinchliffe
