Rigid and flexible media substrates

Perspex Distribution focuses on sustainability within their range

Perspex Distribution have just passed twenty years of servicing key industrial sectors including Visual Communications, Signage, Retail Point of Sale, Construction and General Fabrication industries with their range of rigid substrates.

Luke Martyn, Marketing Manager, for PDL tells us, "Most will be familiar with Perspex Distribution (PDL) and our leading range of thermoplastics for signage and print.

PDL recently celebrated its 20 year anniversary and it is the flagship Perspex® cast acrylic range that has been the go to product for thousands of signmakers over those 20 years. It remains the only UK manufactured cast acrylic and PDL offer the largest range of colours and thicknesses on the market."

Asking Luke about their rigid substrates and how they are keeping up with the current market, Luke replies, "Sustainability has been the buzz word in the industry for a number of years and PDL have responded as sign makers and end users sought increased options for materials with significant recycled content and greener credentials. PDL have been working hard with our manufacturing partners to increase availability of recycled products within our range and now offer recycled options within the majority of material types.

Uniquely amongst the rigid media suppliers, PDL boast over 80% of materials being manufactured here in the UK and the only supplier to offer sign & print staples such as Cast Acrylic, PVC Foam, Aluminium Composite and Polycarbonate from UK suppliers under one basket."

With such a range on offer, we wanted to know if there was a particular product in the range that is favoured. Luke replies, "Alupanel aluminium composite, produced in Kent by the UK’s only ACM manufacturer, is available in all grades from PDL. Whether you are a signmaker looking for a long-lasting sign tray, or large format printers seeking high volume printed hoarding for a large construction project, there is an Alupanel grade perfect for the job.

For specialist projects, a new fire retardant AlupanelFR grade is now on our shelves. Not only does it meet the stringent Class B

fire rating classifications, but after listening to industry requirements, the double sided substrate is manufactured with a digital matt/matt finish, optimised for vibrant digital printing on the signal white surface."

Luke finishes by elaborating on a 100% recycled rigid material that has seen growth over 2023. "Traction has continued to grow in 2023 with Palight®

Re-NU, a Palight® Re-Nu PVC foam

panel is made using 100% recycled contents from end users and pre-consumer waste. Produced as a co- extruded PVC allows for a quality printing surface

Luke continues by explaining improvements of different substrates that are currently underway. "PVC Foam users can also expect to see improvements in the coming months as our Palight range of PVC Foam sheets are brought together under the Palight Plus banner with users benefiting from a uniform pristine white surface across the Palight Plus, Palight Print Plus and Palight Print Plus LW variants – leaving print service providers with more flexibility in mixing and matching sheets for their ideal applications."

100% recycled PVC Foam, offering end users all the application benefits of PVC in a first for the UK print market. Palight® Re-NU is manufactured by Palram in their County Durham.

Palight®

Re-NU is produced as a co- extruded PVC providing a constantly reliable white surface allowing print professionals to get the best image quality and colour accuracy from their printers. The 100% recycled content contains a mixture of post-consumer waste recycled from end users, as well as pre-consumer waste processed via Palram’s own in- house recycling centre.

Luke concludes, “2023 has been an exciting year for PDL and it has been fantastic to celebrate our 20 year milestone as the year ends and reflect on the successful journey we have been on to date. As we look ahead to 2024 we have more exciting new products coming to market, all in response to feedback and demands coming from our customer base.”
