Business | Talking Point
head of associations and technical lead, FESPA
What skills and advice had you picked up over your career that has stuck with you? My three top pieces of advice would be: • Stay curious and remain vigilant. Change is constant and staying up to date is what separates progress from stagnation or decline.
• Appreciate different perspectives, as they can support you to refine your approach.
• Take each challenge as an opportunity to learn.
How far do you think this year’s FESPA event was a success? From my conversations with both exhibitors and visitors post-event, my impression has been extremely positive. At this stage, we are in the process of analysing the data to finalise unique visitor numbers, revisits and Net Promoter Scores that determine our year-on-year comparison. However, we’re confident that FESPA remains a platform where business decisions are made across the different verticals that we serve.
What was the catalyst to expand FESPA with the new expos, WrapFest, Corrugated and Textile? Over recent years, we’ve seen different trends emerge and businesses enter verticals across the speciality print industry. This includes wrapping, textile and apparel, as well as corrugated packaging and display. In light of this, and with FESPA’s community at the forefront of our mind, we recognised the opportunity to support both the businesses already operating in these segments and those looking to enter them. This led to the launch of Corrugated and Textile, and the relocation of WrapFest to take place alongside our global co-located events.
From the recent expansion, where do you see happening in the future of the Expo? In 2027, FESPA Global Print Expo will return to Messe Munich, Germany, from April 6 to 9. The flagship event will be co-located with European Sign Expo, Personalisation Experience, WrapFest and Textile. The events will once again explore shifting consumer expectations, new technologies and the materials and techniques shaping the future of wrapping, signage, textiles, personalisation and print. Corrugated is set to run on a biennial basis
and it will return alongside FESPA Global Print Expo 2028.
What do you think about the future of wide-format printing, especially within the FESPA and wider community? In recent years, many wide-format print businesses have faced rising production costs, driven by material inflation and higher employment costs that are difficult to pass on in a competitive market. However, these pressures can be offset through careful investment in creative, productive print technology and workflow automation. As a result, identifying new markets and simplifying ordering processes through strategic planning are now more important than ever.
What do you most enjoy about working in the print industry? I’m always finding new things that spark my interest, and it’s a pleasure to be part of a community motivated by delivering excellent customer satisfaction.
