PHAM NEWS | JULY/AUGUST 2025 Training Update 13
Essential knowledge for shower expertise
Installers can take advantage of Hansgrohe’s Installer Academy free technical training sessions to expand their knowledge of the company’s product portfolio and installation techniques. Held at its Warwick-based
academy, courses combine hands-on practical training with theory, starting with a focus on the popular iBox 2 installation and servicing. Attendees will learn how to maintain Hansgrohe products, identify faults and make repairs, all while experiencing the new training space designed to reflect real-world installation scenarios.
The academy forms a key part of
Hansgrohe’s ongoing support for trade customers, following the opening of its purpose-built training centre in Warwick last year. It includes realistic pipework stations and testing areas, allowing installers to gain a thorough understanding of both product specification and
performance. The free training sessions are
designed to run from 10:30am to 3pm, with a structure that includes
60% practical work and 40% theory. Attendees will also receive a goody bag worth £75 and 50 Talisman loyalty points, which can be exchanged for cash rewards. ◼

Practically minded in Peterborough
Quantum Training and Kensa have collaborated to provide practical renewable energy training at Peterborough College’s Centre for Green Technology. The facility features specialised training bays installed by Quantum Training, including two ground source heat pump training bays, two solar thermal training bays and two electrical ecosystem training bays. The training courses offer students hands-on
experience working directly with Kensa’s British- made ground source heat pumps and solar thermal systems. Students learn essential skills such
as installation, commissioning, servicing and maintenance of these renewable technologies within a realistic, industry-standard environment. The electrical ecosystem bays provide practical experience with electrical systems related to renewable installations, giving learners a comprehensive understanding of system integration. This approach is designed to equip students with
the technical knowledge and practical confidence required for careers in renewable energy and low- carbon technologies. ◼

Supporting the transition from boilers to heat pumps
Ideal Heating has received close to £1m in funding to extend its training to support the transition from boilers to heat pumps. The Skills Bootcamp funding will enable the manufacturer to deliver additional courses to installers through its Expert Academy training arm. The training is designed to enable heating engineers to develop their
technical knowledge and expertise in relation to heat pump technology, ensuring they perform efficiently under a range of conditions and account for climate and environmental factors. Initially, 20 Ideal Heating team members will undergo additional
training in heat pump system design, with the aim of then extending the training to external stakeholders. This forms the latest phase in Ideal’s ongoing delivery of training
through its Expert Academy, which trained approximately 3,000 installers through in-person sessions in 2024 and operates from 30 training facilities in the UK. The training is supported by Expert Academy On Demand, a digital platform offering access to training materials. Training for the company’s own team is due to start this summer,
with plans to roll out additional training to the wider industry afterwards. ◼

VR tech to help students progress
West Lothian College has joined forces with Mitsubishi Electric in a new partnership aimed at tackling a shortage of workers trained to install heat pumps. This venture will help students and staff learn the latest green energy skills in a way that blends classroom lessons with real-world experience. Learners start with online
Training is world class
The training division at Baxi has received a ‘world-class’ net promoter score (NPS) of 87, reflecting high participant satisfaction. NPS measures customer loyalty on a scale from minus-100 to 100, with scores over 80 considered world-class. The score follows ongoing investment in Baxi’s training facilities and expertise, including the opening of the Solutions Academy at its Warwick HQ and planned upgrades to centres in Warrington and Dartford. Feedback highlighted trainer knowledge, training centre quality and
theoretical instruction as key strengths. Respondents also expressed a desire for more hands-on training, leading Baxi to expand practical learning with a broader range of products available for in-person sessions. Ian Trott, head of training solutions, says: “We use feedback to
evolve our courses and centres, ensuring heating engineers have the skills needed for emerging technologies and industry changes. We remain committed to providing world-class training and supporting the future skills needs of the sector.” ◼

training, then get hands-on practice at Mitsubishi Electric’s training centre in Livingston, Scotland,
using virtual reality (VR) to safely simulate complex tasks. The programme is now part of
the college’s plumbing and engineering courses, and by aligning educational delivery with
the latest industry practices, it prepares students for real jobs, supports new climate goals, and helps create a more sustainable future. ◼

Revamped academy
LG Electronics has revamped its UK training academy in Weybridge to help engineers keep up with the industry’s move towards low-carbon heating solutions. The facility now includes new R290 air-to-water heat pumps and Multi Vi VRF systems, reflecting current and future technology. It offers training for installers, distributors and customers in installing, commissioning and troubleshooting residential and commercial split ACs, VRF systems, chillers and air-to-water heat pumps. Upon completion, participants will receive LG certifications and become eligible for extended product warranties: seven years for heat pumps and five for air conditioners. ◼
