NETWORK EFFECTS: FROM FRACTURED PATHS TO FREE MOVEMENT
Tim Fendley talks to BikeBiz about the way we experience the world when walking, wheeling, and riding, comparing this to systems established and codifi ed behaviour in other areas of daily life.
How does a behaviour become a unifying pattern? For visionary disrupters, budding entrepreneurs or venture capitalists, ‘network effects’ really are the holy grail. They are the key to rapid commercialisation and dramatic rises in fortune. Network effects drove the adoption of
the telephone, the internet, social media, and Amazon. It was the reason why Betamax was outdone by VHS. But you probably know all this. The phenomenon involves a product or service becoming exponentially more valuable with every added node.
