APPOINTMENTS This month’s movers and shakers throughout the cycle industry... John Howe, Michelin


Michelin Tyres has named John Howe as managing director for the UK and Ireland, with effect from 1st January 2022. He will also hold the role of B2C sales director, with responsibility for the company’s car, motorcycle and bicycle markets.


Howe, 41, brings 25 years of service within the company, having started his career in the warehouse of Solideal UK, before continuing with the business through a series of acquisitions first by Solideal International, Camoplast, Camso and then finally Michelin in 2018. Howe will be based in Stoke-on-Trent and will replace Chris Smith as managing director, who recently moved to Michelin’s international headquarters in Clermont- Ferrand, France, to take over the role of global marketing director long-distance transportation. n


Mike Sanderson, Whyte Bikes


Whyte Bikes has appointed Mike Sanderson as senior product manager. Working with Whyte’s product and design teams to continue the development of its bikes, Sanderson will focus on the specification of Whyte’s high-end bikes and e-bikes, as well as building strategic partnerships with key suppliers and stakeholders. Sanderson will be working closely with Andy Jeffries, Whyte’s product director,


who said: “We are very excited to bring Mike into our product development group. He has an outstanding reputation for developing award-winning and ‘best in test’ bikes so his experience is a perfect complement to our current team. “We are looking forward to working together to produce the


next generation of progressive bikes and e-bikes.” Sanderson said: “With its laser focus on performance and design, Whyte Bikes is the pinnacle of British bike design so I am delighted to be able to apply my passion for bikes and racing bikes to such a fantastic brand. It’s exciting to work with such a great team and to have the opportunity and resources to put my ideas into practice.” n


Adam Tranter, West Midlands cycling and walking commissioner


Mayor of the West Midlands Andy Street has appointed Adam Tranter as cycling and walking commissioner to accelerate plans to get more people moving around the region by foot or bike. Tranter will still be CEO of


agency Fusion Media and will split his time between the two roles. Since 2018, the West Midlands

has secured £40 million for active travel routes and projects, including the West Midlands Cycle Hire, and the commissioner will be looking to build on that success. “I want our region to achieve its active travel potential,” said


Tranter. “We saw during lockdown that vast numbers of people will cycle given the right environment to do it in; our goal has to be giving these people a genuine alternative to using a car for short journeys. We can only do this by building high quality, direct and connected infrastructure.” Tranter is stepping down from the voluntary position as


Bicycle Mayor for Coventry to take up the new West Midlands- wide role. n
