British security brand Hiplok is renowned for developing some of the toughest bike locks. We caught up with Hiplok Co-Founder, John Abrahams to find out more about Diamond Sold Secure and his personal crusade to beat the bike thief.


You have dedicated the past 10 years since starting Hiplok to beating the bike thief. What drives you? Ben and I developed the Hiplok ORIGINAL wearable chain after I had a bike stolen because I hadn’t taken a lock with me. I’ll never forget that sinking feeling when my favourite bike and more importantly my ride home had disappeared. I guess that feeling drives me each time we build a new lock – our mission is to build it as strong as possible for its purpose.


Tell us why the new Diamond Sold Secure Rating is important. Sold Secure is the premier lock testing facility in the UK. They test all bike locks across all brands giving each lock a rating depending on their strength and suitability: Bronze, Silver, Gold and now, Diamond, which was introduced in 2021. Sold Secure is completely independent, so a completely unbiased way for the consumer to understand the security difference
