After the success of the second Kickstarter campaign in 2017, the expectation was that Scorn would be released in two parts, the first during 2018. It was eventually decided to release a single game.
Oh for an old fashioned keycard: Scorn delights in having you plunge your fingers into organic alien machines that writhe and grip before letting your progress.
The world of Scorn manages to feel both vast and oppressive. Simultaneously the outlook is baroque and grotesque, which is a rare feat. There is also a great deal of familiarity, likely brought on by watching the Alien movies a few too many times.
Opinion on Scorn is divided, even among those that appreciate the game. “I think as many people should play it as possible,” wrote Rock Paper Shotgun’s Alice Bell, “but I can’t say you’ll enjoy it.” The Guardian called Scorn “a revulsive but rewarding nightmare”.
