NEWS ROUND UP Love Cocoa to open on Oxford Street

Westminster City Council’s ‘Meanwhile On: Oxford Street’ project was set up to provide prime location shops for innovative brands at reduced rent using both vacant spaces and those formerly occupied by low quality businesses. The three-year campaign has seen almost 1,000 applications from innovative new businesses, and Love Cocoa’s chocolate shop is one of the first wave of store openings (please see attached announcement release from Westminster City Council). The B Corp certified business is focused on driving positive change within the chocolate industry, led by modern chocolatier and Cadbury descendant, James Cadbury. Crafting with pride and care, Love Cocoa uses only the finest quality cacao that’s ethically sourced from growers who farm fairly and pay their workers properly. Love Cocoa launched in 2016, offering the UK’s first letterbox-

friendly chocolate service, and since then, the brand’s offering has grown from bar chocolate to include truffles, selection boxes, biscuits, and hot chocolate flakes. The business, which James has worked hard to build up from scratch - independently from the Cadbury family of old - is proud to count London institutions Liberty and Selfridges among its stockists. Love Cocoa is known in the industry for its sustainable credentials, including a noteworthy

tree-planting initiative, with 1.8 million trees planted in the last four years in a bid to help combat deforestation and climate change. Situated on Westminster City Council’s prestigious South Molton Street, the eye-catching chocolate shop will appeal to London locals and visitors alike. As well as the main Love Cocoa range, shoppers will also be able to purchase soft- serve ice cream and hot chocolate, plus items from the brand’s new Festive Collection in the run-up to

great momentum seen over the last 12 months from the legacy Nerds range in the UK (+65% YoY). There is now a clear opportunity to elevate the category and drive premiumisation with Nerds Gummy Clusters in the UK, given the tremendous growth seen in the US, where Nerds has delivered the highest growth in the Sugar Candy category over the past two years (23% contribution to growth).

Cadbury said: “We are so excited to open our first Love Cocoa store this autumn. We’ve always dreamed of opening a shop, and thanks to Westminster City Council and landlords Places for London, we’re now able to do so in our dream location, in our home city in London. Our own retail space is a real milestone for us as a brand, allowing us to share our sustainably sourced chocolate with more people than ever before, through our retail range of bars and truffles, as well as a brand new Love Cocoa hospitality offer including ice cream and hot chocolate. Being part of this exciting initiative gives us the opportunity to deliver unique, sensory chocolate experiences that simply can’t be achieved by shopping online. We see this as a real game changer for the business, and hope it will be the first of many stores to come.
