“Plant positivity is really about transforming nature into something that brings health and nutrition to consumers,” Alexandre Carvalho explains. The company’s approach goes beyond mere marketing; it’s about embedding this positivity into every aspect of their operations. “Our portfolio is largely plant-based, and we focus on delivering products that promote health and nutrition. This is why we emphasise positivity – because it’s about taking what nature offers and using it to benefit people’s diets and well-being.” Roquette’s strategy is centred around four main areas: protein fortification, fibre enrichment,

sugar reduction, and texture improvement. Carvalho elaborates, “We are investing heavily in protein enrichment, particularly with pea protein, to create meat alternatives and enhance beverages. Fibre enrichment is another key area because fibres aid in digestive health and sugar management, helping to combat obesity.” This holistic approach reflects a deep understanding of the evolving dietary needs and preferences of consumers. “Texture is crucial as well, because the sensory experience of food – its taste and texture – is vital for consumer satisfaction. We are committed to developing clean label ingredients that are easily recognizable and consumer- friendly',” he adds.

Innovative product developments Roquette’s product innovations are a testament to their dedication to plant positivity. Anke Golde introduces a high-protein shake that exemplifies their advancements. “This shake contains about 24 grams of protein per 12 ounces. It features our new creamy pea protein, which provides a smooth mouthfeel without the need for hydrocolloids. This ensures the shake remains well-mixed and palatable for longer periods, enhancing the consumer experience,” Golde explains. The shake, with its clean taste and cookie dough flavour, is a reflection of Roquette’s commitment to texture and flavour. Golde also highlights other innovations, such as a high-protein coconut milk and a buffalo wing-flavoured coated peanut. “Finding the right variety of fava beans was crucial to avoid off-notes and ensure the proper functionality for the coconut milk. It’s a high-protein beverage with a clean label and a pleasant taste,” she shares. This process, while challenging, underscores Roquette’s dedication to quality and consumer satisfaction. Carvalho adds, “The taste of pea protein has improved significantly, as we work to eliminate the ‘pea note’ that can be off-putting to some consumers.
