The brand also expanded its headphones range in Berlin, introducing its first earbuds using air conduction technology, the JBL Soundgear Sense (above), as well as the Live 670NC on-ear and Live 770NC over-ear headphones, both with True Adaptive Noise Cancelling and Smart Ambient technologies. Utilising 40mm dynamic drivers, the LIVE 770NC and 670NC offer JBL Spatial Sound from any stereo content. Buyers can also set up a customised hearing profile with Harman’s advanced Personi-Fi 2.0 technology. Battery life is a formidable 50 hours with ANC on. The Soundgear Sense is part of a growing

trend for ambient-aware listening. So-called air conduction combines punchy audio, delivered via unique 16.2mm drivers and a bass-enhancing algorithm, without obstructing ambient sounds. Air conduction earbuds rest on the curve of your ears, held in place by ear hooks. Soundgear Sense have an IP54 rating – ideal if you want to explore the great outdoors without muting real world audio.

The giant screen claims a high peak HDR brightness of 5,000 nits, and lists anti-reflective treatment, low input lag, and resistance to screen burn amongst its many attributes. We don’t have pricing and availability details

for the UK market, but there’s no doubt the X11G will deliver an impressive home theatre experience when it arrives. Soundbars remain one sector of the home entertainment market which has yet to run out of steam. Sennheiser unveiled the Ambeo Soundbar Mini at the show – its third Ambeo model. This new bar offers 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos virtualisation, courtesy of four high-end full- range drivers, and dual four-inch subwoofers, all powered by 250W of amplification. What’s even more impressive is the physical

Mini LED TV Mini LED TVs were the hot screen item at IFA 2023, with Samsung, Hisense, Panasonic and LG all promoting the technology, which looks brighter and more colour rich than OLED. TCL’s QD-Mini LED X11G made a particularly big impact. This model, with a massive 115- inch screen, proved a real jaw-dropper. Even in the high-brightness environment of the IFA show floor, its pictures were strikingly dynamic.

size of the Mini, just 70 x 10 x 6.5cm, making it ideal for smaller rooms and theatre spaces. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Chromecast Built-In, and AirPlay are all included, and codec support is wide, with Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, MPEG-H, and 360 Reality Audio all on-board. The Ambeo Mini (pictured below) also has advanced room calibration, voice assistant options for Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri. IFA 2023 demonstrated that despite the absence of some major players, the CE industry continues to innovate and impress. From portable TVs to gaming audio innovations, wireless home theatres, laser projectors, wireless speakers, massive TVs, and compact soundbars, the show continues to offer a tantalising glimpse at tomorrow’s tech.

Frying tonight

Panasonic unveiled four new additions to its kitchen appliance line-up at IFA 2023, comprising two new air fryer models, the NF- CC600 and NF-CC500, and NN-DF38P and NN-DF37P combination microwave ovens. The latter are notable for three Eco Combi mode settings which allow users to grill and microwave power at the same time, thereby saving time and energy. The air fryers are distinguished by a built-in water tank that adds gentle steam during the air frying process. This steam function is said to enhance crispiness and to help retain moisture within the food. Both air fryers are expected to be available from Spring 2024.

Whether you’re selling to gamers, movie enthusiasts, or audio connoisseurs, IFA 2023 had something valuable to offer. We’re already looking forward to next year’s centenary edition!
