More evolution than revolution at IFA 2023

Europe’s premiere technology exhibition roared back into life this summer. The show may have lacked star power, but there were still plenty of highlights, reports Steve May

With such a storied history, expectations are always high, and this year’s event delivered – – albeit with product reveals that were more evolutionary than revolutionary.


LG wowed with its 27LX5 StanbyMe

What’s intriguing is its flexibility; the StanbyMe screen can rotate 90 degrees from landscape to portrait mode or be placed in a table configuration. A 20W sound system is integrated into the case, to complete the viewing experience.

hard at IFA, showcasing its Game Mode Extreme platform on the MZ980 OLED TV. This new dedicated interface allows players to optimise their button-mashing with 4K 120Hz refresh rate support, AMD FreeSync Premium and NVIDIA VRR, along with a new True Game Mode for more accurate colour reproduction and enhanced HDR tone mapping from game consoles. The brand also introduced the GNW10 Sound Slayer, a wearable gaming audio system. This second-generation wearable sound system boasts a quartet of 38mm speakers and handles multichannel audio with less than 20 milliseconds of latency.
