Cliff Freeman opened the Freemans store on The Triangle, West Hill in Portishead in 1967; the business moved to its current home on the High Street in 1975. In the store I was greeted by Jason, the Sales Manager, who asked if I needed any help.
I said I was keen to find out more about Sonos, however, Jason said that, unfortunately, the Sonos app is not working fully since the app was relaunched in May. Jason said I should make my purchase once the issues around the app were resolved. He then gave a good overview of the different models in the Sonos range. Jason presented the ERA 100, which was priced at £249. He demonstrated the volume slider and said that I could pair with ERA 100 or another Sonos smart speaker in the same room for stereo separation and a more detailed sound. The next model Jason presented was the Move 2, at £449. He said the model enables users to have up to 24 hours of playback, and it’s both dust and water resistant. I thanked Jason for his product help.

While Jason did not attempt to close the sale, as he didn’t want me to have an inferior experience with the app, he did a great job. The store was well presented.
Lakeland, The Mall, Cribbs Causeway

This store is situated on the lower level of The Mall, sandwiched between branches of Card Factory and mobile phone retailer O2. Walking past the store, I could not help but notice a window display for Dry:Soon, a range of electric airers. Inside the store, Katie told me that the heated clothes airers cost around 9p an hour to run, and that the foldable heated shelves dry laundry quicker.
I said that the largest size Dry:Soon product, the Deluxe 3-Tier Heated Airer, priced at £219.99, would be most suitable. She said that the model holds two average loads of washing and offers 21 metres of drying space. Katie highlighted the timer function could also be used to delay start drying. Katie said if I bought the bundle deal, priced at £249.98, I’d get a cover and a pair of mesh shelves for laying delicate or small items on. Katie added that Dry:Soon is covered by Lakeland’s three-year guarantee.

Eddys Domestic Appliances, North Street, Bedminster
This store is in Bedminster and located opposite 5 Acre Farm Shop, a Community Interest Company, which sells everything from fresh produce to eco homewares to engaging and inclusive events. Inside the store, I explained to Rob that I was looking to buy a freestanding washing machine, and I said that a large drum would be the best option, so we could get loads washed quicker. Rob said that the same day he had sold a 9kg Haier washing machine (HW90_B14959U1UK), priced at £449.99, which is a 1,400 spin model that comes with Wi-Fi connectivity and can be controlled via a smartphone. Rob explained that the model’s I-Time
feature enables users to control the duration of the wash, so they can tailor cycles based on their needs.
Referring to the Euronics website, Rob showed me a second washing machine – a 9kg Bosch model (WGG24400GB), which was a 1,400 spin model, priced at £499. The Bosch SpeedPerfect feature can produce optimum wash results in 65 per cent less time, Rob said. He added that the store offers free delivery, and £25 to fit the new machine.
