ANALYSIS: AIR TREATMENT – COOLING Home Appliances
A breath of fresh air 20
With Summers in the UK getting hotter than ever, customers are looking for reliable cooling solutions that also combat pollutants and manage pollen levels within the home. With so many options and features, ERT investigates.
I
n the lead up to the Summer months, air purifiers increase in high demand as more people experience hay fever and are looking for ways to breathe cleaner air indoors. At the same time, cost-effective solutions will be
popular, not least because in some households they could be running all day and night. Sales of in-home air purifiers specifically have risen by 53 per cent since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and consumer interest only continues to grow. AEG recently launched its new PURE 7000 2-in-1 Multi Air Purifier (below), which also features a multi-directional cooling fan. It neutralises 99.99 per cent of captured bacteria and filters 99 per cent of airborne viruses; it also directs refreshing, purified air towards you on warm Summer days with its high-performance fan function. There’s also the AEG Pure 5000 – a mono air purifier with four-stage filtration system, the AX7 Air Purifier, equipped with a five-stage purification system, and the AX5 with a four-stage system, making both appliances highly effective against common airborne irritants, bacteria, and odours.
From Hoover, the H-PURIFIER (pictured above) reduces airborne ultra-fine particles as pollutants and allergens, in particular pollens for allergy sufferers, and it’s recommended by British Allergy Foundation. The brand’s hOn App can monitor the presence of outdoor pollens and communicate their presence to the product, while Hoover’s HEPA Filter has the power to inactivate pollens. Furthermore, the H-PURIFIER alerts you when the outdoor pollen level is high (based on your personal pollen settings) and automatically works in order to minimise it and prevent allergic symptoms. Within
the range is the
H-PURIFIER 700 with a diffuser fresh fragrances and probiotics,
connected to spread and a
humidifier. There’s also the H-PURIFIER 500 and H-PURIFIER 300. For those with pets, Beko’s Air Purifier with
HEPA Filter and HygieneShield is a must-have; it releases negative ions into the air to neutralise and sanitise airborne pollutants combined with triple filtration – this filters the air in three stages, firstly by removing large dust, hair and pollen particles in the machine washable pre-filter. The HEPA 13 filter then removes 99.97 per cent of dust, pollutants, allergens and microns, while the carbon filter removes unwanted odours, improving air quality and odour elimination.

The Air Quality Lighting Indicator gives users peace of mind that they are breathing in clean air, but the Air Purifier offers 360-degree air distribution – so it can be placed anywhere in the room and generates maximum airflow. Elsewhere, as hay fever season kicks in, Princess is ready to help with its two triple filter Smart Air Purifiers – the 356160 and 356280 models. These work via the associated app but can also be controlled by voice as well. “The dehumidifier market has also seen
growth as consumers look for more cost- effective solutions to dry clothing,” explains Graham Speake from Princess. “We expect sales to continue for those who do not or cannot dry clothes outside. We offer a range of models, including a 10L, 16L and 20L smart model.”
