Whirlpool UK Appliances has announced the appointment of waste management firm, Axil integrated Services, in a multi-million- pound contract. This follows news that the appliances manufacturer achieved a 50 per cent reduction in general waste and achieved its zero waste to landfill by 2022 pledge at Whirlpool sites in Peterborough and Yate. The

manufacturer’s Symphony and Retra join forces to host

open days on selling fitted kitchens Symphony Group has organised a series of open days at its Barnsley headquarters for Retra members who are interested in selling kitchens. They said members will be able to see first-hand

the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and home office furniture that is offered by Symphony and it will demonstrate how they can share in the success achieved by many other electrical retailers that have started selling and fitting furniture. The remaining Symphony and Retra open days are

being held on 20 July, 17 August, 21 September and 19 October.

Earlier this year, Symphony became a Retra associate

member, and Retra CEO Howard Saycell said many of the group’s members are either active in the fitted kitchen marketplace or are considering entering it. “Any member thinking of moving into this market can get a very comprehensive guide on how to get started, plus the levels of support on offer for a new entrant into this sizable market opportunity,” he said. “Robert and his team would be delighted to talk to any Retra members thinking of expanding into fitted kitchens. In order to get the full benefit of their knowledge and experience first- hand, it is well worth making the trip to Yorkshire.”

re-appointment of

Axil highlights its ongoing commitment to its sustainability goals, including its Net Zero 2030 target for its Scope 1 and 2 emissions. To date, the waste management expert has already supported Whirlpool UK in reducing its plastic usage by 80 per cent, as well as an overall reduction in general waste by 50 per cent.

The new multi-million-pound contract includes the total waste management of all waste streams, including: scrap metal processing and recycling, cardboard, plastic, wood, general waste, dry mixed recycling and hazardous wastes. Commenting, David Sherrington from Whirlpool UK, said: “We have made great strides in waste management. We’re delighted that we’ve achieved our zero waste to landfill target, but we’ll continue to work with Axil to further reduce our waste as we pursue our ambitious sustainability goals.”
