Let there be light! S

ales of smart home technology have grown by 22 per cent in the last year alone, with three quarters of homes now owning at least one piece of smart home technology, according to research by GfK.

Many consumers are looking for the whole package; not content with just one connected element, today’s savvy and on-demand generation want to be able to control everything – from their heating, alarms and lighting to appliances and sound systems – remotely and via their smartphones or voice-activated eco systems.

4Lite has an extensive range of smart lighting products, including smart wall and ceiling lights, fire rated downlights, LED strips, smart bulbs and outdoor luminaires.

The latest addition is the LED Smart E14

bulb. Ideal for wall fittings, pendant lights and chandeliers, the bulb emulates the shape of a candle bulb and it’s available in amber and clear options with a decorative visual filament.

Possessing all the user benefits of WiZ Connected technology, the E14 can be linked with other smart bulbs or smart networks to form a fully automated and controllable lighting system where factors such as operation time, brightness, intensity and colour temperature can all be highly tuned. It can even be operated by Google, Siri, Samsung SmartThings or Alexa.

Rachel Morris is the Marketing Manager at 4Lite.

“Start with a small but varied range that can be used throughout the home,” she says. “Try smart bulbs, strip lighting – which can add colour, create ambience and highlight specific design features – and smart accessories such as plugs, remote controls and sensors. Interoperability is also key for end users. Retailers should ensure their products work with a range of eco systems in their stores if possible.” Aside from lighting products directly, there is also an increasing demand for smart plugs as

Demand for smart lighting products is soaring; for those retailers selling other smart and connected products there is a huge opportunity for enhanced revenue. ERT finds out more.

savvy consumers look for easy ways to improve the efficiency of their home. 4Lite smart plugs provide automation and connectivity where traditional fittings – such as floor and table lamps, TVs and appliances – can be linked together and set to turn on and off when required.

Ms Morris says there is education still to be done with consumers on the benefits of smart lighting. Retailers should take up manufacturer resources, like training sessions and step-by-step setup videos, as well as POS and other marketing materials. She concludes: “Do not underestimate the importance of demonstration! This will allow customers to see the true value of smart lighting and retailers should display as many capabilities of their product ranges as possible.”
