Samsung’s device-agnostic connectivity platform, and AI Energy Mode, which allows compatible appliances to automatically optimise energy consumption based on real- world usage patterns.

Miele, sustainability is about measurable

improvements that make a genuine difference in everyday use,” says Helen Pyman, Marketing Director at Miele GB. One of the brand’s most significant recent developments has been the move to energy efficiency class A across its entire 60 cm dishwasher range, including models within the G 5000 and G 7000 series. Given the frequency with which dishwashers are used in most households, improving efficiency in this category can deliver meaningful reductions in both energy and water consumption over time. Laundry is one of the key pillars of Miele’s eco strategy. The brand exclusively manufactures heat pump tumble dryers, which are significantly more energy efficient than conventional condenser or vented dryers. Combined with EcoDry technology, which helps prevent the heat exchanger from clogging with fluff, these dryers are designed to maintain consistently low energy consumption and reliable drying performance throughout their service life. By focusing on efficiency over the long term, Miele positions lower running costs as a core part of the value proposition. Addressing concerns around water scarcity and energy efficiency is ultimately about ensuring appliances use only the resources

genuinely required for the task. In dishwashing, intelligent load sensing and efficient programme design help minimise water and energy use, while features such as AutoDos with PowerDisk dispense the precise amount of detergent needed for each cycle. This helps avoid overdosing, reduces unnecessary rinsing and supports efficient cleaning performance. Functions such as AutoOpen drying further reduce reliance on heated air, contributing to lower energy consumption.

Energy intelligence

As connected technology becomes more deeply embedded in the home, sustainability is increasingly being driven by intelligence rather than manual intervention. For Samsung, eco performance is closely tied to smart automation, enabling appliances to actively manage energy and water usage in the background, without requiring consumers to change established habits. “We have energy-saving features across our home appliances range, helping households cut energy use and costs,” says Seb Goff, Brand Lead for the Home Entertainment and Appliances division at Samsung Electronics UK. Central to this approach is SmartThings,

By connecting appliances through the SmartThings app, users can monitor and manage their energy use in real time, gaining greater visibility over how and when energy is consumed across the home. This insight is increasingly valued by consumers looking to balance sustainability goals with rising household bills, particularly as smart technology removes much of the complexity traditionally associated with energy management. According to Mr Goff, consumer demand for eco appliances is being shaped by a desire for simplicity as much as sustainability. “Consumers want to save time, reduce bills and feel confident they’re making responsible choices,” he explains. “They expect technology to help with that.” Features such as AI Energy Mode are designed to cut consumption automatically, without requiring users to become energy experts or change their daily routines. Efficiency, Samsung emphasises, is not about

compromise. By combining smart intelligence with thoughtful engineering, appliances are designed to help households use water and energy more responsibly, without sacrificing comfort or convenience. “Saving time and money needs to feel effortless,” highlights Mr Goff.
