93 per cent of consumers want to reduce the amount of energy they use, so it’s vital that we continue developing appliances that help them live more sustainably, without adding complexity.”

About damn time… to go eco

Eco appliances are smarter, faster and more efficient, helping households save energy and water. ERT finds out more.

S

ustainability has well and truly moved out of the spin cycle. With household bills still on the boil and environmental awareness showing no signs of cooling off, consumers are more focused than ever on how the appliances they buy will perform long after they’ve been switched on. Consumers want everyday performance that’s both responsible and reliable. For retailers, this creates an opportunity to connect the dots between eco features and real-life benefits. Energy labels, water usage and intelligent technology can’t just sit on the spec sheet, today’s customers want clear savings, effortless operation and appliances that do the hard work for them, without compromising on design or results. Manufacturers are answering the call. Across

laundry, dishwashing, refrigeration and cooking, brands are dialling in smarter technology,

longer lifespans and genuinely lower resource use. Whether it’s appliances that think for themselves, systems that keep food fresher for longer, or products that cut energy and water use while keeping performance high, sustainability is now baked into design rather than tacked on as an afterthought.

Precision performance

As sustainability continues to influence purchasing decisions across the domestic appliance market, manufacturers are increasingly focused on reducing the environmental impact of

products during

everyday use, an area where the biggest gains can be made. According to AEG, consumer demand is clearly driving this shift.

“At AEG, sustainability is central to everything we do,” says Michael Forbes, Lead Product Trainer at the Electrolux Group. “We know that

Recent product development at AEG reflects this usage-led approach. The brand’s newly announced Series 8000 and 9000 dishwashers are designed to deliver measurable savings in energy, water and noise, three factors that are becoming increasingly important for consumers facing rising household costs. On an Eco wash, the machines use as little as 8.4 litres of water, which AEG says can be significantly less than washing up by hand, while operating at noise levels as low as 37 dB, or 35 dB when using the ExtraSilent function. The range is also rated A-10 per cent for energy efficiency, positioning it among the most efficient models currently available. Consumer awareness around sustainability is also influencing how appliances are used in the home. “People are far more conscious of their environmental footprint than they were even a few years ago,” says Mr Forbes. “From our research, 88% of customers expect brands to actively help them be more energy efficient, and that expectation is shaping buying behaviour.” To support this, AEG has focused on making

efficient choices easier at the point of use. Features such as the QuickSelect Connect interface on fully integrated dishwashers allow users to intuitively balance time and energy consumption, choosing between shorter cycles or Eco programmes without sacrificing cleaning performance. Induction cooking is another area seeing growing interest, with products such as the AEG 6000 FlexiBridge® Induction Hob offering flexible cooking zones and energy- efficient performance that align with changing consumer priorities. Water efficiency is another growing concern, and one that manufacturers are increasingly addressing through smarter engineering. AEG’s
