Panasonic’s new MZ2000 OLED TV

New features include height adjustable feet, and an integrated soundbar mount. The 8808 models (43- to 65-inches) also get a swivel stand. The 85-inch 8508 has a 50W sound system, which drops to 40W on smaller screen sizes. The 43-inch model has a 20W sound system. It’s not clear if both will come to the UK. Panasonic is hoping to win over serious

buyers with its new MZ2000 flagship OLED. The screen, available in 55-, 65- and 77-inch screen sizes, also utilises an MLA panel from LG Display (on the 55- and 65-inch models), here coupled to the brand’s own proprietary heat management hardware. Visually, it doesn’t look any different to its antecedents, and comes with a full Dolby Atmos 360-degree Soundscape system, including rear mounted height and side speakers. That said, there is a new Bass Booster algorithm to shill.

Panasonic calls this OLED design ‘Master

OLED Ultimate’. It also uses its own highly regarded HCX Pro AI processor. Like rivals, the brand is bolstering gaming support. There’s a new True Game mode, said to bring the ultimate in colour accuracy to gameplay, plus new Game Audio presets for different gaming genres. Two of the four HDMI inputs have v2.1 functionality, capable of 4K 120Hz playback. There’s also ALLM and VRR, plus NVIDIA GSync and AMD Freesync support – useful if an interested buyer owns a gaming PC.

HDR format support is wide, with Dolby

Vision IQ, HDR10+ Adaptive, and HLG Photo covered. There’s also Filmmaker mode with Intelligent Sensing, able to adjust picture quality based on both ambient light levels and colour temperature. LG, Philips and Panasonic may be pushing MLA screen technology hard in 2023, but Samsung doesn’t intend to be outshone. Samsung Display has produced as second generation Quantum Dot OLED panel,

which is a magnitude brighter than its 2022 predecessor. It’s also expanding its QD-OLED range with a secondary line.

Buyers can choose between the S95C

and cheaper S90C, both available in 55-, 65- and 77-inch screens sizes. The S95C is distinguished from its stablemate by a newly redesigned One Connect Box. The new model has an attractive LaserSlim design but still finds room to build in a 70W multichannel OTS+ sound system. >>

For gamers, Samsung’s 8K screens feature a quartet of HDMIs that support 4K 120HZ video playback, plus a VRR
