processing, High Frame Rate connectivity, and immersive audio are all conspiring to convince buyers it’s time to upgrade – and that spells opportunity at retail. So what are the models most likely to entrance buyers? We’ve shortlisted the displays most likely to make a power play this year… LG is clearly one to watch. It hopes to dominate
the premium end of the market with the incoming G3 – its first model to incorporate a MLA (Micro Lens Array) OLED panel from LG Display.

This innovation features a layer of micrometre convex lenses that maximise light emission by preventing light being reflected back into the module, thereby boosting brightness. We’ve seen multiple demos of MLA technology and there’s no doubt that it brings a concrete brightness benefit. LG describes the G3 as having Brightness Booster Max technology, a combination of brightness boosting algorithms, and Light Control Architecture, which is a hardware heatsink. The catch is that the G3 is ostensibly for wall-mounting only, as there’s no pedestal stand in the box; LG does provide a dedicated furniture stand, but only as an optional extra. There’s some devil in the details too. The G3
is available in a variety of screen sizes, 55-, 65-, 77- and 83-inches, but the latter does not feature an MLA panel.
LG’s popular C-series also features Brightness Boosting technology, but the C3s do not use the MLA panel. Instead they find extra illumination through algorithms, powered by the brand’s Alpha 9 Gen 6 processor. The C3 comes in a wider range of sizes though: 83-, 77-, 65-, 55- and 42-inch options. It’s worth noting that LG has reworked its webOS platform for 2023; the UI is now a two-page design, with nested folders to simplify navigation. The menu system is also customisable, so users can prioritise those settings they use the most. For buyers seeking more extreme viewing solutions, LG also offers its OLED R Rollable TV, 55- and 48-inch Posé designer OLED TVs, the bendable 42-inch OLED Flex and 88-inch and 77-inch 8K models.
