DIY WEEK AWARDS 2020

2018 Supplier Shortlist Revealed

Judging for this year’s supplier categories in the DIY Week Awards has now taken place and part one of the shortlist of products in line for an accolade can now be revealed.

A

total of 32 products have been named as finalists across 10 categories, some of which you will find detailed opposite. Judges convened two weeks ago at the Dulux Decorating Academy at AkzoNobel’s UK head office in Slough to discuss the entries and test out the products. It was a fun day and everyone managed to get hands-on with the huge

array of items put forward this year. There were some tough decisions to be made across a host of great entries and our stellar judging panel stood firm in their brief, judging products in each category using criteria of innovation, quality, function and price.

Our judging panel this year comprised: Paul Andrews, DIY Product Manager, Home Hardware Southwest Paul Garland, Associate Buyer – DIY & Garden, QVC UK Vicky Nuttall, Director, Garden Industry Manufacturers Association Mike Smith, UK Sales Manager, EFG Housewares Keeley Vernon, Sector Manager – DIY & Home Improvement, BHETA

The whole day went smoothly, thanks very much to our hosts and, after much deliberation, the panel finally settled on the shortlist. Half are featured opposite and we’ll more in the next issue. AkzoNobel customer business manager, Alan Avery said: “We were delighted to support the DIY Week Awards by hosting the judging panel again at our market-leading Dulux Academy in Slough. As a company, innovation is at the forefront of what we do, which is why we welcome events like the DIY Week Awards, which put the spotlight on inspiring new launches. Having the judges onsite, also gave us the opportunity to showcase our award-winning training facilities.”

The overall winners in each category will be announced at the 2020 DIY

Week Awards luncheon on Friday, May 1 at the Tower Hotel in London, along with a Judges’ Special Award accolade to be awarded to the entry that our judges felt stood head and shoulders above the rest.

• Judging for the retailer categories also took place this month and the finalists will be revealed in the 10 April issue.
